Well done mate, excellent news, might you be making your way over to the UK for the Kit Car show at Newark on June 16th-17th?

Congratulations!! Well done! You can be very proud. :-)
What size license plate does the tr1ke get?

Hy Rik, That's great news , it took not that long as I thought. I'm still on the IVA route, instead of the Dutch IKS, with my Rocket and hope to get it by RTR before the end of this year. cheers, Arjen

Thanks folks! Tomorrow morning I am going to file the BPM taxes. Unfortunately, the legal plate size will be the size for cars. There was no way I could persue them to legalize a motorcycle size plate. So, I think I am going to try to have a "illegal" small plate made. There is no policeman in this country who knows the exact regulations anyway (except for the only one who knows me, but he is no threat :-) ) venom: I am afraid I have things to do then... If all goes like it should, I have to pay about 440 euro for the dutch BPM taxes. They will tell me by mail, then I must pay it and when the payment is received, they will send the registratuon papers. I spent the day to modify everything back to the way I want it in stead of the 'legal' way . The best part was getting the rubbish out of the intake and exhaust and mounting a K&N filter. It sounds so sweet now! Made a little testdrive an what a difference! I gained about 50 bhp I think and it responds very, very good now. I only have to find a solution for the reverse, because the engine stalls when I activate it. I think the voltage on the ECU drops below a certain level and then it shuts off the engine. I think I must place a back-up battery just to make sure the ECU keeps the correct voltage... Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using ProBoards

Hi Rik, well done getting your tR1ke through the dutch regs. I am having the same trouble with my reverse,it stalls when i press the reverse button. i assumed it was my battery not having enough charge in it, but it starts the motor ok. do you think it might be that we need a higher amperage battery

Perhaps you can add an additional battrie wich you need to disconnect with a masterswitch from the main batterie to keep the motor running? This is the only thing I can come up with which may work. a rev increaser fabricated on the throttle cable won't do it I guess. LiFePo cells suffer a big voltage sag under load as well (nominal voltage 3.65V, under load 2.7V@40A per cel!!)
I could live with 440euro tough it feels like a waste of hobbymoney...
show us a new vdo soon of burning 888!!

Worth looking at a leisure battery for your reverse maybe?

I already placed a very good, high power battery which normally is used in Harley Davidsons, so that is not the solution. Indeed, maybe a dedicated reverse battery will do the trick... But, a dedicated battery for the ECU can be made much smaller.
I must think about it...

Hi Rik, I rang rtr today and their trike retains the original battery but also has a larger car battery connected in parallel. he couldn't say what amp it was. he said it works on the flat but not up hill, I'm wondering if the gearing is to high. I have tried a 34 amp battery but it wasn't enough.

Would it not be a good idea to turn off the motor when parking in reverse? increasing the gear ratio would help a bunch to reduce the voltage sag and increase the lifespan of the cells.
regards, Erik

How about revving the motor while in reverse so the alternator can help out

Changing the ratio will be hard because the gearwheels are quite special. Tried revving up also, this doesn't help.
I'm going to consult one of my collegues today because this problem occurred also in our bow thruster installations when the service magnet (a kind of solenoid valve that shuts off fuel supply) on a generator is energized. If I'm correct, a regulator is used to keep the voltage on the plc at a contstant level. If I can do this trick on the ecu of the enigine, I think I can tackle the problem also.
More to come!

The only thing you can do to reduce the voltage sag is to reduce the current or multiply the batterie capacity, lower voltage (=less power), lower kV (rpm/volt) or increase gearing. Having a fixed drive system already limits you to increase batterie capacity or add a brushed speed controller.
You may reconsider to use a small additional batterie for the electronics and use the main pack for the reverse, but the main pack needs to be disconnected from the small batterie by switch or relais.
an other option may be to add 2 additional 6V batts in series on the main pack while driving and convert the layout to 2 parrallel to halve the voltage and double the capacity. I guess this is only recommended with a relais...
good luck, Erik
