How did you folks secure your conical air filters?

Another week has passed, as I take care of little things. The tank cover has been mounted, the hood is in process of being fitted, the front sway bar is in, as are the top hats. I didn't have all the issues so many have had with the top hats, but it was NOT a twenty minute job. After cutting the top quarter inch off the shock studs beforehand as has been suggested, much wailing and gnashing of teeth was avoided. I'm basically treading water until my exomotive exhaust arrives in a few weeks. Meanwhile I'll be working through lights and mirror issues. I have none to mount as yet, but it's coming up on the radar. While mucking about toward the front of the chassis, this gusset has been on my mind. It looks like a good spot for a ground, but maybe it's a hard point for something else? What am I missing?

In the UK, many used that bit to mount their headlights but then had to twist the lens round 90 degrees

Camspeed my donor came with a red K&N crossover tube which I wasn't going to use - until I discovered a bung on the underside, just about where your brace is. I got a piece of steel, cut it to length, bent it to a Z shape, painted it black, and attached one end to the bung, and the other end to the cam belt cover. Works for now, but then again I'm not driving it yet, either. Well see. Your tube is shiny chrome, and mine is shiny red.

Now that my taillights have arrived, I can cut holes in the tank cover for them. Before installation of the lights, I'll need to work out a filler hose. These are the lights from Etrailer: Fusion LED Trailer Tail Light - Stop, Tail, Turn, Backup - Submersible - Round - Red/Clear Lens Item # STL201RFMB www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Lights/Optronics/STL201RFMB.htmlThe nose/hood is mounted now, too. The last "big" thing to do is install the exhaust system We're in the queue which is another few weeks of delay, but meanwhile I can muddle with the headlights, taillights, and battery box.

The shifter hole's been enlarged for full movement now, and the taillights are wired up and installed. The dominator 2.0 headlights were a bit of fun. After mounting them on the TUSK brand bar clamps (which I heartily endorse), I looked at the light pattern projected onto my garage door. Of course a builder will recognize that the low beam light has an "eyelid" inside the assembly, which means you can't just switch bulbs and wires from one side to the other. You need to take swap over the integrated "eyelid" as well. Of course the hi/low light function worked ok, but because the headlights are designed for bikes, they're all manufactured identically. This means the light on one side is the low, and the other side is always high. In order to get the light pattern as I desired, and the "eyelid" where it needs to be, i.e. inside lights are lows, and the outside lights are highs, I had to disassemble the mounts of one pair, and swap their positions. And a fine time was had by all.

Old news for a source of signals for many of you, I'm sure. Nevertheless, since I'm reluctant to buy things on line I try to find vendors with stock on the shelves that I can actually pick up to get a feel for. CYCLE GEAR is a nationwide chain that has a fair selection of turn signals that some might find useful, several for $20 or so. Later on I may upgrade to fancier stuff, but for now the pair I picked will do just fine. Just sayin'.

As they say in the UK, I'm "well chuffed" as my lights are installed, and working. Highs, lows, running lights, stops, turns, tails, and backups all work as intended. Yeah, I know, it's not a big deal, but it is a hurdle that I've cleared, so now it's on to the next thing. Next thing is the fuel filler, after I do the much easier license plate and third brake lights.

After reading some of the Light and Brake inspection horror stories of some California builders, I swapped out my Dominator 2's. They don't have the DOT stamp on their lenses so I installed others that do. Considering the inconsistencies I've read abouit between inspection stations, I figured it wasn't worth risking an inspection failure using a lens that isn't DOT stamped. Drag Specialties make these six inch lights, which are available at several fine retailers for $50 or so each.

OK, OK, so now that all the lights are in, and all the indicators seem to be working, it's time to move toward tidying up the wiring. I'm so excited. No, I'm not excited.
There is a handful of semi-major things yet to perform, such as installing the exhaust when it arrives, working out a windshield solution, wipers, installing the side panels and fenders, but I think resolving the wiring now is the best approach
Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more

Well, where has the time gone. A week with family business, and a week tidying up the wiring loom. . All wires wrapped up with this loom cover material, and secured to the frame with cushion clamps. I'm looking for ideas to mount a switch panel and more gauges.

Moving right along, sort of. Got the fuel filler located, using a PERKO brand angled marine filler tube and cap, mated to a gates 1.5 inch hose with a 90 bend.
It seemed like a great plan, but it's always something. One step forward and then one step back! It tooks just fine, but the PERKO overflow tube is 5/8ths ID, doesn't mate to the one on the tank which is 3/8ths. The distance between them is so short, there's not much room to play with. Back to the drawing board...

on 9/3, I posted my question about two gussets, one on each side at the top of the chassis corners. I'm now wondering if they are there for the front wing mount. You see, I mistakenly ordered "front and rear wing mounts" thinking that they referenced "wings" as they are called in the queen's english, but in USA we call 'em fenders. So I have the proper fender bracketry, as well as front and rear wing mounts. Anyhow, my chassis has plates welded onto the back supports, tapped for the rear wing. So maybe these gussets are there for mounting a front wing.
