Hi Joker
Will your throttle kit fit the Sonic 7 Kit or do you do a throttle kit for the sonic 7. If not then what is the best option for the sonic.
Cheers
Andy

Hello Andy,
Yes, the same kit will fit the Sonic. There are a few forum members who have already fitted them.
For general info the kit also fits LHD chassis.
Regards,

Update; A little behind schedule but I now have the first frame cut and assembled, ready for welding and fit test. The overall height of the frame is actually lower than the original Ford unit by about 3mm so installation in existing kits should be fine. The front brace has been removed as the frame seems sturdy enough...we'll see. Hoping to have prices by the end of the week. Thanks,

Two questions:
1. It looks like the new unit places the cable mounts back an inch or so. How does the other end of the cable make up for this?
2. What are the benefits of doing this instead of buying just a short throw shifter?
Also, that looks great! Too bad it will be covered up by the center tunnel.

Hello Joker, What have you done about the reverse gear lift mechanism? Do you find it not necessary on your modification? Looks very neat and tidy.
Regards, Les.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the questions..
There is no change in the cable mounting position on the gearbox, it's just as the factory installation. The brackets on the gearlever frame are positioned to accommodate the difference in the outer cable end position caused by the new routing of the cables. I've made the brackets adjustable to allow for any variation in this position although the 'designed' position should work from the outset, making first installation easier for new builders.
Most quick shift kits are simply shortened levers or have minor ratio adjustments to help out with the shifting process. This lever is shortened but focuses more on ratio to keep the lever as long as possible for the driver. Notice that WRC and Touring Cars have long levers in addition to paddle shifters to keep the drivers hands as close as possible to the steering wheel. You can only feasibly have a long lever if you have a short shift, similar to that on a sequencial box.
The top of the frame is taller than the Ford Unit (even though overall it is shorter) and this allows the bottom of the lever to be extended through the frame. You can't do this with an aftermarket shifter on the standard Ford frame.
As mentioned above, it is as much an installation solution as a quick shift unit.
Les,
The lift reverse is not required on the 1.8L ib5 gearbox, it is built into the gearbox itself. However, it can still be fitted to this unit if necessary with a minor modification to the Ford Aluminium housing.

I've now replaced the original Ford lever in my own kit with the first QS Gear Lever Assembly to test the fit and static gear selection. The frame dropped inplace of the original unit nicely and looks much less intrusive. With the selector cable brackets in the 'home' position no further adjustment was necessary (as expected). It will be interesting to see how much (or little) is required in other kits. All gears engage very positively and the shift is long enough to maintain control through the gears but short enough to change with very little arm movement. In fact I could change from 1st-2nd and 3rd-4th with wrist/finger movement only! Initial pricing is as follows.... Base Kit (DIY) - £29.50 (+P&P) For builders who wish to convert their own Mondeo gear levers. The kit includes... 1 off Fully fabricated lever housing, powder coated Satin Black. 2 off Selector Cable Brackets, powder coated Satin Black. 1 off Gear lever extension, uncoated ready for welding. 1 off Fixing Kit, 1 off Modification and installation instructions. Base Kit (DIY) + Donor Lever Assembly - £39.50 (+P&P), (Subject to Donor Lever availability) As above but supplied with a donor Mondeo Gear Lever, alloy housing, nylon bearing, bellcrank lever and centre spring. Please note! these are used items; they will be clean but may show some signs of wear although this is normally just the selector nylon cup (£4 from any Ford dealer). Full QS Gear Lever Assembly - £53.00 (+P&P), (Subject to Donor Lever availability) The complete kit as above but with modified gear lever included; minimal assembly required before fitment. The kit has been designed for use with the Focus 1.8L (ib5) gearbox. Compatability with the ST170 (Getrag MT285) gearbox is to be confirmed. I have a small quantity of gear levers available that shall initially be offered to members who have already expressed and interest in the kit, (PM's sent). Base kits shall be available in two weeks. Please PM for further details. Thanks

Do you know the part number and where to get the matching pedal box from? I need your accelerator pedal and the pedal box.

The Wilwood Pedal box is on our options list. Most people order one from us when they order their kit.
