Hi all Finally picked up my kit this week after a nightmare regarding planning permission. Had to re think where to put the workshop, so now its at the bottom of the garden. Its going to be fun moving the car once its built. Need to clear some space to start the build, but at least its in there and ready to start. Im shifting the shed across a foot so I can put a "lean to" next to the shed for my bike. Going for a new 2.0l engine on a new/recon IB5, all the other items will new source new to go for a new reg plate. Heres some pics. Cant wait to get started Moving the mess Trimming the trees back Slabs down Shed up Not much room :/ Kawi green Axle stands make me feel ive started More to follow

Hi there Flynn. Looks like you got the build slot before me because my build slot is the 10th Jan. Would be good to keep in touch though because I'm also going for the 2l engine with recon gearbox option! Hope you're mechanical knowledge is a little better than mine though because I'm a complete novice. A true example of whether enthusiasm can overcome stupidity . Whereabouts are you based? Cheers Kevin Am lovin the green!

Making a proper start tomorrow, well, going to get the floor on at least. Due to my limited space, whats the best way to go about it. I'm thinking I should turn the frame upside down, mark it out, and cut it on top of the frame? Sound about right? Im actually more nervous about cutting the floor than doinf the rest of the car, maybe because it the first thing to do and I dont want to balls it up. How did you guys go about doing the floor?

i bought one of those set squares that you can set the angle on.. then selotaped a marker pen to the angular part so that the tip of the pen was as close to the center of the pipe as i could get it when the set square was layed flat on the sheet and pressed up against the tube... i clamped the ally sheet down and went around it like that... it ensures that you get the same amount of ally protruding everywhere and keeps everything even... worked for me! hope this helps

If i remember right (it was a while ago now!) I flipped the frame over then fixed the uncut sheet with two screws. marked out the panel using a pen and cut with a jig-saw...
Because I fixed the sheet with two screws initially, once it was cut out (and edges smoothed!) it went back perfectly in place - ready for drilling and riveting (fixing 50 odd rivets with a normal pop-rivet gun hurts!)
Oh, and one of the best tools I have/recommend for panel work is a orange Snap-On 'dead blow' hammer - great for gently working the aluminium into shape!

Hire a battery operated pot rivet gun from hss. I think it cost me £40 for a weekend and was well worth it!

I did about 4 rivets with my manual gun and Ive already had enough :/ Bought one of these. Looks like it'll make it easier Will be here tomorrow www.rivedrill.net/attachments/rivedrille95h/index.htmlSome more piccys of my (slow) progress Going to smooth off the edges with a dremmel tonight, rivet in tomorrow morning and on with the front end. Going to buy the alloy uprights and wilwood brake for the front next week.
