can anyone tell me if this pipe connection was for the return leg on my 1.8 vvts engine as it connected to the purge valve before the canister then from there to the return leg to the fuel tank ?

If you've removed what was originally connected simply "Blank" it off with a Blank Plug or small section of pipe with a bolt in the other end.
If you have 2 spare open ports link them together with a small section of pipe as they wont blow off as there are both at the same pressure.
If your going Forced Induction make sure its on tight as I've blown them off before on my Turbo.
If you leave any of these open the car will idle crazy fast it will draw air it's past the Throttle Body / IACV..
Check under the Plenum as there are quite a few Vacuum Ports around it.

gents please can you help,
firstly thanks mscott for your explanation I just need to get it fully clarified as I'm not running turbo:)
I have a mk2.5 1.8vvts 2003 engine and I need to understand the removal of my canister as its completely different to all the pictures of the mk2,
1, remove pipe from intake manifold that went to the purge valve and blank it off 2, keep purge valve just tuck it away and loop pipe connections together 3, don't bother with return leg to tank just fit one way valve on tank to stop fuel leaking out if car rolled over
does this sound right and what is the down side and will it effect how it runs or emissions for iva test.

I could do with this confirming as well. I haven't blanked the inlet pipe on mine yet and the car runs rich, I'm wondering whether this could contribute.
Thanks

MK2 tanks are taller than MK1. Our demo has a MK2 tank. The rear cover lifts high enough to go over the tank if you mount the tank on extended bolts so the tank hangs under the mounting brackets for the tank on the chassis. This will lower the tank by 30mm ish. It depends which way around you fit the tank, I have the filler behind the driver seat.
If you have an MSA spec roll bar or extra supports for a wing, the tubes restrict the height you can lift the rear cover when sliding it over the tank BUT;
Remember taking the tank out of the MX5? It was fitted in before anything else from underneath. You can do the same before you fit the rear subframe to the chassis.
As you raise the tank upwards from underside towards the mounting tabs you can feed the filler pipe towards the cap neck. This is possible but needs more than 2 hands.
It is easier if you use flexible filler hose instead of what I did which was use the MX5 pipe. Careful you don't create a sag in the filler pipe though as it will be an ass to fill and always smell of fuel.
It's like smelling your wallet evaporating!

where did you buy your fuel hose from? I really like it and will probably get the same. Have you got anything with it to show the IVA man or is it marked at all?
Any link to where you got it would be great mate.
Thanks John

Thanks mate, I was just looking at that funny enough, how much did you order for one run? (I dont have my chassis yet) I have a mk2 so will need double as I have a return as well.
I'll get it ordered when I know.
Thanks
