Day 2, Done about 6hrs today got all wiring sorted and all out of the car. I have removed all parts not needed bumpers carpet etc. just got to the point on the build guide where it says drain fuel tank and hit a problem as my car does not seem to have a drain plug on the fuel tank . I will go on the tech section and ask a few questions as I'm at the point where a bit of advice would help. a couple of pics bellow to show you where I'm upto, on nights this weekend so probably wont get much done for a few days.

Rather than undoing an old drain plug for its first time and risk any damage trying too hard; just syphon it out? If you use the ploy of drowning a load of the end of the syphon tube to start with you don't even need to risk smelling / tasting / drinking it. Just a thought if it's slowing you down,

If you don't have the right tool to release the fuel hoses get one.. They are cheap and make removing hoses 1,2,3 job.. You can remove the center most hose from the fuel pump plate (supply line)on tank, put on a hose and clamp to the plate, put 12V to the I believe R/L (L=blue) wire and ground to black from battery that will run the pump till tank empty.. Some tanks had a drain bottom left forward.. Before pulling the body remove front sway bars from body, steering shaft, E brake cables, brake hoses clutch hose or slave, push wires from battery through floor so they are free of body and clamps, ground below exhaust manifold to body, speedo cable clamped to body, harness to trans and O2rear sensor under left seat push through floor.. Iam sure I forgot some.. Have fun

i have posted these questions on the tech section under help but they might fit better hear? so they are as follows,
my car has ABS and I would like to keep it if possible but with regards to the brake pipes under the bonnet do you try and save them or just chop and make new ones when I start the rebuild as I'm spending too much time trying to save things especially if you just make new ones ??
with regards to the radiator is it better to buy a mk1 as the Exocet is designed for it and if so does the fan from mk2.5 fit on mk1? or would I need to buy a fan as well?
cheers

Most people make new brake lines, the original steel ones would be really hard work to make fit the exocet chassis.
If you are using the MeV bonnet bracket the mk1 radiator is better as the hose feeds are in a better position.
I ditched my mk2 rad and bought a mk1

Forgot to add, the fan is also different, you would need a mk1 radiator and fan. Radiators are cheap on eBay and I picked a used fan up for about 20 quid

If you do keep the ABS take pics of were the tubes go to and draw a pic of it to.. There have been builders who kept the ABS. Haven't heard any bad about it.. If you drop it you will need a new brake master for non ABS..

Your car looks in good nick. I know a good powder coaters just off junction 38 of the M1 who will blast and coat all the mx5 parts for a very reasonable price.
He's painted my chassis and one other exocet so far. Also can powder coat calipers.
I'm not sure whether 17's would fit under the wing mounts more than anything. Drop Stuart an email and he will confirm

cheers mikeeyboy, I'm having MEV do the chassis but might be good for the other bits so please drop me the name and number. As for the wheels i'm not sure what to do with them as they need refurbishing and i like to put new tires on them as i don't know the history of them so when you add up the costs say £200 for the refurb and £360 for 4 new tyres it might be better to get a wheel and tyre combo i'm being told you can get one for about £500 ? have you bought any spacers and if so what size do you need to get? cheers,
