Hi John. My reverse isn't working either, I am hoping I have just reversed the wires as everything else electrical worked first go. Just need to get the car lifted so I can get to the wiring.
I always find the start of some warm weather is a good motivator on a build. I am lucky in this respect as I can take the Westy out for a blat. Fitted my interior mirror yesterday, small progress but better than none.

Hi mate,
I'm pulling my hair out at the minute spent hours and hours trying to trace an issue with the cars idle.
Issues comes and goes but basically it hunts for revs and finally will stall.
When it's under load it's fine butility when idle almost sounds like a misfire. I've done plugs and leads again and a long list of trouble shooting and it's still here sometime it hunts and sometimes just settles into a low idle quite lumpy.
Diagnostics show evaporation valve solenoid which is probably due to carbon canister being removed and alternator fault.
To do list is check the alternator and find out if it's faulty or a wiring issue, then look at probably a new throttle body and idles control valve and coil pack. At least with the body off working on the cars easy.
Exhaust is now on and sealed properly and made holes in dash for hazard and fog lights switches spaced them back a bit so flush with dash.
Do I need to have the dash Brightness adjustment on the dash or can that be cable tied up out the way. I think as the donor had it originally iva wants you to keep the adjustment switch but wasn't sure in what capacity they need access.

Hi John
Had a similar sounding issue with a rough idle and stalling on my Westfield, ended up being too much pressure in the fuel line, that was a mk2.5 engine and had a different fuel pump but might be worth checking the plumbing, the excess pressure is dumped at the tank from mk2 onwards, mk1 had a regulator on the fuel rail with a return line. Another one that can cause issues at low revs is a faulty sensor in the exhaust manifold. I have a fuel pressure gauge but you would need to plumb in an inline fitting for it. I also have a spare set of coil packs if you want to try them, happy to post.
I might be able to talk a mechanic friend into a trip over to yours if that would help, he helped me with some early issues on the Westfield build.

I recently had similar idle issues with my daily MX5, car would start and run for a minute or two before hunting, misfire and eventually die.
Diagnostics through up little in way of codes but turned out to be the MAF sensor needing cleaned.
Bought some specific MAF cleaner and now back to perfection.
I figure the issue but pulling plugs until I found what sensor was making a difference.
Try pulling the plug on the MAF sensor if It has no affect on the idle then it could be the problem.
Just a thought since I had similar problems, careful running with a misfire, you could trash the catalytic converter.

Shit the bed a few hours on the car, drilled out both headlight holes in the shell used the lots of small drill holes technique Dremel the hole out and sand it smooth along with the headlight mounting holes. Fitted wingmirrors which I think I'm happy with but westys look awesome and fitted my bonnet down. Used a new idea some aviation style rivet nuts m6 thread rivet the nut plate to the body shell then drill and counter sink a hole in each corner of the bonnet. A dished washer and m6 hex head taper bolt through both looks quite good.
Next is front indicators and buy some side ones.

Electrics now sorted, all lights now working, titned out to be two dead bulbs, a dodgy earth and missed connector.
my focus shifted slightly as bought an oldish porsche 911 that needs a little (lot if the wife not reading) work it's at a specialist now. When I get back from holidays I'm sorting headlights fitted to shell , headlight covers and join the loom to aftermarket.

Holes drilled for headlights now, little bit of loom stripping and tidying away some of the items I don't need (not cutting anything away yet until it's iva done just incase)
Also cut my perspex headlight bowls out. More bits ordered cbs like another wing mirror as mine were although same part number mismatched, some bits and bobs and some door locksuppliers and indicators. Still need outer door hinges though.

Sorry a young family , house renovations (full house re wire) and Christmas dragged me away.
Westie I picked up a 911 996.1 the first gen water cooled with the 3.4 engine from research it's the most reliable engine (The 3.6 have some well documented issues) just enjoying driving it lots and fixing some little bits that older card have.
Replicar wise fitted dash cluster back into dash and wired up headlight, side lights and front indicators.
Next is neaten up a few temp wiring joins and wire up and check the rear lights using the new units. Then I think it's body on.
How long do the rear body support bars need to be cut down for a mk2 donor ? Anyone check for me please.
Got some build threads to catch up on to.

You will need to measure the rear supports when the body is on, you might get a slightly different alignment on the body than I did so your fit will probably have a different length to mine. From memory you remove quite a lot of material. You will find that when you align the wheels to the wheel arches you will have to go for best fit, as with most kit cars the sides are not even. Best fit is a common term in kit building.
It was the 996 am looking into, thinking they must be close to the bottom of there value now and you can still get lower mileage examples. Got some extra money coming in at some point this year so looking to pick one up, just got space in the garage for another car.

On the body as per westie66 comments Im still playing around with mine to get a fit that looks good from both sides (if I get wheels in centre of arch on one side they are a little out on other and if I align centre of body with centre of chassis they are all a little out. Should say it is nothing major and a little adjustment here and there seems to be working out.
On the Porsche front dont be put off by the 'poor mans Porsche' tag associated with the Boxster as its utter rubbish, the mid engined layout and Porsche build quality makes a good one (987 Boxster S) an excellent buy without getting into silly money.

Thanks for the tips on the body I know its going to be a quite time consuming element of the build so I am dragging my heels a bit. Its def a warm weather jobby.
The 911 is great, I went for the early 996 model as prices on these are picking up now and the 3.4 has less issues than the gen2 3.6 litre which had some bore score and a seal failure issues affecting some of them. loads of guides out there and advice im really pleased with mine it handles really well and the mid range from the engine makes it really driveable. I went for the Carrera 4 (4 wheel drive) as the car I replaced was a 400hp rwd car which was a handful I fancied a change.
I did look at cayman as I could live with a 2 seater (wife has a car and I also have a diesel estate) but at just over 6 feet I couldn't get comfy. I think the best value for money at the minute is in the Boxster.
