Did a bit in the garage today around other errands. Fitted the quick release battery terminals a nice bit of kit and I ordered them yesterday afternoon arrived this morning. Cut the old terminals off and clamp the wires into the new blocks. Then drove car out the garage and left it running for 15 minutes checking for any leaks or noises etc all the water pipes got hot I was hoping to wait for the fans to kick in but it never got to half way and got bored waiting so that can be a job for another time. Cut the redundant stalk off the steering column no point having a wiper and wash feature on these cars. Did a lights check as mentioned I have an electrical gremlin , ok here goes. I have the following. Front side lights Front headlights and beam. Rear side lights Rear fog lights Rear brake light.(more on this in a minute) I don't have. Indicators Hazard lights Reverse light Number plate lights. I realised the brake light didn't come on because the brake pedal switch wasn't plugged in the wire was to short so I extended that this afternoon and now rear brake lights work. Also extended the horn wire to fit a bit easier as was a stretch. So few bits done and some progress need to start going over the wiring diagrams and earths and take it from there.

Just two pics while it was running. See how big the rear back box is.

Looking good. Just one observation: when I put my Sonic through IVA the inspector failed it on having the battery retained with a webbing strap; I know that many production cars do similar, but I changed it to a metal bar "clamping" arrangement for the re-test which was perfectly satisfactory. My test was at Chadderton, so I guess will be your centre too when the time comes. Of course, my test was around 6 years ago now, so testers may well have changed, so might not be an issue.......and a different tester may have a different view anyway. Martin

Thanks for that Martin good tip I'll see if any other method jumps out at me whilst in the build process or see if anyone fails this year with one it maybe a tester discretion thing.

Today was spent on eBay not in the garage but ordered some high tensile m12 long bolts for the upper harness bolts that go through the tube on chassis and some new washers etc.
Some exhaust clamps for the mid section and as advised an aftermarket generic back box will see how it fits next week.
I've some old harnesses I'll use for mock up while I figure that bit out.
Do we use 3 point harnesses with bolt hole attachment what have people used for the side mounts and where on car.
Thanks

I had the same issue with the larger exhaust box at the rear. I measured the space and got a local trade supplier to let me wonder around their stores with a tape measure. I ended up with the rear box from a mondeo, it was a high performance version, maybe STI but not sure. This fitted the space and was the correct diameter pipe. Needed some work but fits and doesn't up the volume. I did try an ebay box but it was too loud for IVA. Pics of the exhaust are in my thread. Post IVA I will be doing a complete exhaust rethink, maybe side pipe but will see, we need to get a good sound from our kits :-)

Slow day, cut off backbox and clamped up new box just need to figure out some new mounts.
Fitted my bolt in harness used high tensile m12 long bolt for the top and two 7/16" lower bolts into two harness spreader plates with welded in nut for the bottom. Tip is to make sure you don't have a fuel line and brake line bracket to close to where the harness spreader plates will go.
Took my dash back off and instrument binnacle want it a bit neater and also realised need to move the loom around a bit and forgot to plug in the clutch pedal sensor.
Got a bit of time tomorrow but not much.

Bit of a delayed update but basically re did a load of my wiring loom earth mounts just to make sure and unplugged and moved the loom a bit making assembly a bit easier. Took dash off and looking at tidying up the dash a bit.
Ordered some exhaust mounts, hangers, paste etc
But on 10th Feb an early hours phone call led to a rush to Christies Hospital in Mcr where shortly after the father in law passed away. He wasn't old at just 62 (me and wife in mid 30s) so hit us hard.
The arrangements that come with this are with us to deal as no one else in the picture have a few months of shifting focus back to family and supporting the wife bit will keep chipping away as and when. Once this sorted in a few months I will be back on it with a vengeance, nipped in garage tonight to get a pair of pliers to fix a keyring my 5 year old broke on his school bag and he got in the car and tried a strapping himself in. He started the car (under a watchful eye) and his grin made me realise how much I enjoy the build so no lack of focus just a shift in priorities for a few months.
P.S does the mk2 have a reverse switch anywhere seem to remember some cars have a gearbox mounted reverse switch but as my reverse light doesn't seem to come on just a thought I had.
Cheers
John

Back up lamp switch is on the left side of the trans mid section high. 2 wires R/Y and B/Y.. It gets its power from the Meter Fuse inside box.
