One of my IVA fails (at Chadderton, so maybe relevant....not sure where you'll be going) was on a webbing strap to retain the battery. Inspector didn't like it, and it looked pretty much identical to yours. Ended up securing with a metal bar for the re-test, which was fine. Not saying it's a definite no (and bear in mind my test was waaaaay back in 2011), as I'm sure I've seen straps on plenty of other cars.....but it could be. Martin

That is an interesting point Martin, when my Westie was tested in 2012 it had a battery strap and the inspector commented on it but didn't make it a fail point. Worth checking out what the actual rule is for this.

the inspector commented on it but didn't make it a fail point Mine was a bit more forthright....along the lines of "I've been seeing loads of battery straps recently, and they're no good". I was already on a fail anyway - the rear brakes had started weeping at banjo unions the night before the test following some "enthusiastic" braking to bed the pads in - and I'd owned up to it at the start of the test. I guess it might well have been a comment rather than a fail in other circumstances . Martin

I think you are right Martin, better safe than sorry. Went down to B&Q for a bit of steel and knocked this up, should meet IVA requirements.

Westie66 Ive done loads of research on this one and whilst most are van tyres, or 4x4's, there are still other options, Vredestein do a reasonably 'low' cost classic tyre, but still two to three times more expensive than 'day to day' car tyres. Last time I went to Stoneleigh I spent ages looking at tyres on the various kits, 215 65 15 Toyos seemed a popular choice on the Jag replicas but I cant find these tyres (other than in winter type) on net. snowbird1 and Stuart Mills have 195 65 125s fitted, snowbird has Dunlops dont know about Stuarts. Any chance you could ask your man about 205 70 15s? Ive trawled through all the tyre sites and these seem to be the most competitive: Camskill, Jungle tyres and Tyres on the Drive. This is the plan, he is taking one of the wheels away and will bring it back with something fitted to have a look at. He wasn't that interested in us rucking up and taking loads of tyres for a test fit. Some people just can't get into the spirit. I will take some pics of what he comes up with and he will have another go if I decide it doesn't suit.

Update time Bit controversial but I decided a while ago to coat the ali floor panels, living with exposed ali can be hard, especially on a floor. Got about half way through the job and ran out of spray so while I am waiting for more spray to be delivered I am doing a few more bits to the body. First up were the new indicators I got from Stoneleigh, took about 2 mins per side to fit. Will see how the power balances later and I realise I might need to do something to stop the hyperflash issue but I prefer this look. Next the headlight cover. This still needs some work but it is nearly there. I am going to try some thin foam tape to act as a water seal but that is also on order. I have also started mocking up the grill. I was thinking of putting some black mesh behind this to stop stones and if I can I want to set it back a little from the silver grill, something else to order.

Time to check out some tyres. This is the Weller Wheels Roadsport wheel which is 15x8 The tyre fitted is a 195/60/15. It does give it the balloon look. Apparently not easy to fit and the rim on the wheel sticks out quite a lot. This is an interesting image, from left to right we have 195/50/15 185/60/14 195/60/15 The first two have a very similar height which means the wheels fitted will probably be the IVA ones, the height increase with the 195/60/15 is quite pronounced and needs the body fitted to see how it goes on space, it will definitely fill the wheel well. Any comments?

Useful pics, and i note the tyres fitted to the demonstrator are even taller at 195 65 15, so my planned 205 70 15s will 50mm taller than the tallest one in your picture based on radius for 195 60 15 being 295mm and for 205 70 15 being 320mm!
Let me know how the body fits over the 195 60 15, preferably with a picture, when you get round to it.

If I can get enough people I am hoping to get the body on at the weekend. I will be doing loads of measuring and I will check out the new wheel for space and look, with pics. Not got any real rush on buying the new rubber as they are for post IVA. Just looking at the size difference you can tell it will throw the speedo completely out. Post IVA will be a new speedo I can calibrate to the wheel size.

No problem john, i'll keep snapping away.
Just in the process of cutting the wood for the floor. Copying the original design to a point but used thin ply as the pedal position is pretty good as it is, I am also going for a darker stain as my floors are now black and thought the original colour would be too much of a contrast. The grip tape is on order. I have also removed the right hand stalk from the column as it only worked wipers and I have ordered a push button for the horn. Using a mk1 steering wheel and mk2 column gives too many issues to overcome with a horn on the steering wheel, I did it on the Westie but after a couple of weeks I started sounding the horn at random times so moved to a dash button.
At the weekend I am hoping to get the body on for a test fit and measure up.

Wood for the floors in, for now. They are a shade darker than i had intended but due to poor workmanship I had to apply an additional coat of stain. I actually really like the look with a darker wood. Still some sanding and more varnish to go but nearly there. And the big one, managed to muster up enough muscle to drop the body on, now need to chock it up to what will be the final position and do some measuring. Currently the exhaust tips are inside the body so definitely needs some height adding.

You're a machine, that looks great and i think im right its the first green one to be sat on a chassis , I had the first shell but I'm quite a way behind. Good inspiration for me and I bet a big boost for you.
Just a quick headlamp question did you buy a set of CBS 7" bowls and universal lamps or mx5 units (we both have mk2 donors) and what did you think was best method to cut out the headlight shape/what size did you cut?
I'm going to the shop In the morning for some biscuits and having an afternoon in the garage.
