I've not had the MGB for for that long, bought it as a restoration project, it was a complete rot box when I got it but rust free now. It is a long term project with no timescale on getting work done. Currently converting it to take another MX5 engine. According to DVLA the last tax disc expired in 1995 and as the engine was a write-off I suspect that was the last time it ran

Big benefit of it now is I can move it about, having a gravel drive makes pushing anything hard work. I have wrapped the exhaust manifold because the heat shield from the MX5 fell apart and ebay couldn't offer a replacement. Most of my time recently has been spent on getting the Westy ready for Stoneleigh, it has been a little neglected recently due to the build. I have also had a delivery, I ordered these in October but I think they will be fitted after the IVA, they are wide, thinking of a 215 tyre so they will fill the arches but not really the skinny tire look of the original.

What size are they ? What colour are you thinking ? I was looking at a company that make spinners to fit on a 4 bolt pattern its purely a cosmetic touch. I'm running some steel wheels of a modern mini at the minute.

Excellent timing, I've recently emailed Stuart asking about the tyres on the demonstrator which are 195 65 15s, Ive got my eye on some 205 70 15s to fit on the 7j wires I bought with the kit but was starting to think these may be a little too large (dia) what tyre size are you thinking?
As for spinners I bought a set of plastic/chrome ones (I know I posted a picture on someones thread of same - think it was DeBoRah build) and snowbird1 had a set fitted to same wheels on his build (not sure if they are fitted on the route 66 photo he posted)

Was thinking of a 215/60/15 but I need to speak to a friend in the tyre biz first and get his opinion, might even get to try some different sizes on before I decide. It will be a different look with rubber that wide. I was thinking of fitting the spinners as well, Europa spares sell some so I am hoping to have a look at Stoneleigh.

I found the post where you posted the pic of yours and that is the look I am thinking of. If Europa take them to the show I will use the discount voucher they kindly sent me. Did you hear that CBS are not taking any stock to the show? bit of a shame and an odd decision.

A small haul from Stoneleigh. Got a battery isolator switch, wheel spinners, numberplate lights, battery strap and some new indicator lights for inside the headlight cowl. Had a good look at some of the seats on offer and checked out some of the gauges on offer. I did try to speak to Stuart but every time I went over to the stand he was deep in conversation, I even tried before the show opened on Monday but he was with the Complete Kit Car people. I tried to beat the rain on the trip back but got within 10 miles of home before it came down in anger, not fun in a car with only a bit of a roof and track day tires.

westie66 hopefully you've dried out by now.
I bought a pair of the bespoke seats from the guys in Mansfield (upside they look period, downside they are fixed back so installation position/angle is critical) but having seen what the boys did on the Deborah build I'd suggest this is a better way to go, they look ok, you keep the reclining mechanism, no need to change the runner width and they'll get you through IVA.
Id also be interested on the tyre size selection, its something I keep returning to again and again whilst progressing the build; any chance I could call in when you try the various sizes (assuming you get some to try)?

I am meeting up with my tyre guy on Thursday so I will see what he suggests. I noticed that when you add height to the width I will need you are looking at van tyres.

Westie66
Ive done loads of research on this one and whilst most are van tyres, or 4x4's, there are still other options, Vredestein do a reasonably 'low' cost classic tyre, but still two to three times more expensive than 'day to day' car tyres.
Last time I went to Stoneleigh I spent ages looking at tyres on the various kits, 215 65 15 Toyos seemed a popular choice on the Jag replicas but I cant find these tyres (other than in winter type) on net.
snowbird1 and Stuart Mills have 195 65 125s fitted, snowbird has Dunlops dont know about Stuarts.
Any chance you could ask your man about 205 70 15s?
Ive trawled through all the tyre sites and these seem to be the most competitive: Camskill, Jungle tyres and Tyres on the Drive.

Little progress update Still working on the wiring in the engine bay but close now, still need to extend the cables for the lights Dash is coming along, still to fit the rear fog switch. Any other switches will go behind the dash for now. Made a battery tray and used the strap I got from Stoneleigh show. Also fitted a cut-out switch And came up with a solution to the issue of the filler neck drooping. Not up to IVA standard of course. I am thinking of doing a trial fit of the body soon, I need to get the wire lengths for the lights and work out the dash position. Not forgetting the boost you get from doing it.

Nice clean work and look.. You might have to relocate the engine fuse box inboard more so you can get to and see it with body on. Same with overflow bottle.. Do you also have a cable from neg battery post to rear of PPF..It is needed..
