"Why is it that so many kit car owners, with their vehicles, do not participate in or feel it worthwhile to attend the various shows and events staged for there benefit during the years summer months?"
It's a question that has puzzled me for a number of years that hopefully someone out there can answer for me.

I'm fairly new to this but for me a large chunk of the issue is time! I'd like to go to Stoneleigh, Mogger meet up and, if it was on Donnington, but between 2 young children and a wife who has to work every other Saturday getting or even wanting the time away is unlikely for more than 1. It's much easier to steal an hour or even 6 in the garage when you're in shouting range if needed than to go off for the day.
My project is my hobby and it has to fit around family.
Personal perspective but it might help!

For travels these events are a PITA to get to.
I'm at least 5 hours travel to any of the shows(minimum)so it turns out to be a 2-3 day event costing quite a bit of cash. And to be honest they last couple of years the shows have been poor. Stoneleigh and Donnington just don't warrant the travelling time or cash involved for what is on offer.
Work commitments are the biggest issue, I work 3 weeks on/3 weeks off so I can look thru the entire year and see that I miss everything going. The only thing I know I'm off for this year is the AMM which is the weekend before I go back to work.
These events are all well and good for people in the central belt of the country but no real use to me.

Same for me, i would like to go to shows and meets but Donnington 3hrs, skegness 5hrs, Stoneleigh 3.5hrs so would mean overnight stay, with wife, kids and full time job it becomes difficult to justify the cash and time.

This also baffles me Nigel. I think the 2 I always try to make are Stoneleigh and AMM minimum.
Where are the exocet guys?

The answer is very simple, we are all individuals. I have met many many kit buyers over the years and not everyone is interested in events or track days or drive outs. They are in many cases engineers who desire to get involved in a build in the peace of their own company. I would like nothing more than to see some of the 500 Exocet/Replicar drivers come out in their creations and join us at the AMM or Stoneleigh. All we need to do is continue to show pictures and videos of us all having a good time, if that fails to entice them then please refer to my first point.

It's simple for me too. Both cars are race cars so not road legal. Going for meets/drives is pointless as I'd be in the Audi or S2000 so sort of goes against the principle. If it's a track day it inevitably falls on a race weekend, or just before/just after so neither funds nor wife will allow I used to attend a lot of shows with past cars, I was even an events organiser for a national car club, they soon loose their appeal when you're trying to sort everything/everyone out.

There's a big body of water between me and most worthwhile shows like Donny, AAM, Stoneleigh etc. Ferries are pretty pricey, and like thefreak, my car isn't likely to be road legal any time soon given the difficulty and cost of getting a reg in Ireland. That said, there's a Classic and Kit Car show here run by the Jag club that I've been to the last 3 years, beautiful old cars as well as a small selection of kits; Cobras, Westies, pretend supercars (which I don't 'get' but each to his own) and ecowindman's Exocet. That's generally a decent buzz, short drive away. dragged wifey along to it last year, lovely but she's not waterproof so the day was cut short when the heavens opened and wouldn't stop. It's usually in July, so there's an outside chance I'll have enough bits assembled to display at this year. Maybe. Edit: nope, at a wedding that weekend :-(

I tried my best last year to get to Curborough only to have my caravan fail on me on that beautiful sunny evening, I know I didn't really miss out last year, but the past 3 had been brilliant, so I'm really looking forward to catching up this year, I will be at Stoneleigh but only for Monday, and I'm gonna have to pay MONEY to get in grrrrrr, I miss Newark, my favourite and closest show, Whilst I probably won't be in the market again for an MEV, unless I cheap Sonic becomes available. Then I should be back in 2016 in something hopefully. Boy I'm gonna miss going out this year, especially changing jobs meaning no more overtime.

Nothing spurs you on or keeps you focused on a build than Curborough, because you get to see what you are building driving hell for leather around a track, and sometimes off it BOBN :-). I think it was you two years ago :-)
