Ive suggested meets/track days on here which have basically fallen flat on the floor. My exocet is track only so like thefreak going to stoneliegh etc is a tough ask to sit in a field at a show where you have been once its the same show the year after. Theres not enough interest in kit cars in this country that's plain to see and do believe iva is a big factor in the decline with its cost and stupidity in a lot of the rules. Also you spend ages dealing with the dvla in Swansea who are a waste of space. And this is coming from someone who lives in wales about an hour from Swansea.
Ive set up my own fb group for mx5 in wales which is growing and run loads of events via that doing a stand at castle combe for the spring action day. Also will be doing lots of track days this year first one next weekend at rockingham, static shows now bore me so if there isn't a mix of track time I wont go. I have llandow 40 mins away that do trackdays all year round, again I be doing a group track day then hopefully drift days down there, also got pembrey 1.5hrs away from me and castle combe the same again so plenty of choice.
Along with my mx5 runs which again much more enjoyable and the lack of exocet out and about despite there being 500+ sold. Castle combe in june does look good so if there is a stand there will be down there.

My previous hobby was paragliding which you might figure is where my avatar comes from. Now there is a sport where you wonder why you have gone away. I spent many a weekend away where I did minimal or no flying. Wind too strong, wind too weak, wind not in the right direction for the site you've gone to. Back in the car, find another site same issue. One weekend I missed the Saturday because my wife was ill but was told the flying was good. Got a pass at 5:00pm, spent four hours driving, camped the night got up and the site was fog bound so eventually I came home without a flight. Went to competitions, mainly drove there often 4 - 6 hours from home. Once I drove five hours to catch a plane to fly to a competition, got one flight in, came home. Went to Australia to the top location in Australia, fortunately I was there to learn flying survival skills (action to take in the event of a wing collapse etc.) and you tow up for that, because the hill launch was "not on". Despite being the top location in Australia, that was only as measured by paragliders, as a holiday destination it was the pits. As the hill was not on some other guys who came from NZ just to fly from the hill spent the first five days sat around doing nothing and then when the weather came right had to walk about three hours up to launch because the transport was out of action. They only to got a flight of a few minutes but in the wrong direction and spent the next five hours walking home. In fact this is so common a whole new sport was born out of it called Parawaiting, some guys even "complained" that they hated it when the flying got good because it interfered with the Parawaiting Why did we do this - because that was what we lived for, sure there was many a time it was crap but there were other times when it was sublime, launching and flying to great height and distance supported only by a flimsy piece of fabric....... then I broke my back and the following year dislocated my elbow and smashed my wrist so I gave up. Now every event that was planned we hoped was going to be the one - new personal best or something, but there was always an aim. With the hope of something at the event you will find a reason to go, without that hope then you wont. Essentially the event will get the numbers if there is a hope attached, something of real interest, without that hope the novelty will just wear off and be a waste of time.

Now this weekend here in New Plymouth we have had our Americarna festival.
This is a celebration of American cars, 500 turned up, some shipped cars from America just for the event (CaseSensitive you only have to cross a puddle by comparison).
Why did they all come to a small city on the west coast of a small island at the bottom of the world?
Because the event was an EVENT.
Road trips, parties, bands, static show on Saturday where the main street was closed for the display.
Friday night the same street was closed and the cars cruised around a loop with folks lining the street outside the pubs and restaurants, place was chocka.
On the main road trip around the province they got to stop at a couple of small towns on the way, in one they had "go stop drags" (fastest time to start and stop over a specified distance), again the town centre was closed for this event.
On the side of the roads all the kids get let out of school to cheer them on and wave flags.
And to top it all the weather was perfect.
Would they have come for a "static car show" doubt it, they came for a well planned, well executed, well supported EVENT and they will come again no doubt.
