Hi folks, Working on the rear lights at the moment. Just to be sure; is there a minimum distance between reflector and stop/tail lights?

No. Only light/light or reflector/light separation requirement is stop to rear fog which has to be a min 100mm.
Be sure your reflector (and all the lights) are a max 400mm from the side of the vehicle. With my wheel/mudguard combination, I had to move my reflector a little bit further outboard than where your's is positioned. Photos in NITRAM'S BUILD.

Thanks for the info. Well it looks like I am just short of the 400mm, so will have to move the reflector. Does it matter if the reflector is left or right side of the lights, or at the back of the lights?

Doesn't matter where it is in relation to lights provided it meets the IVA manual spec, Chap 21 if memory serves.

I don't see any problems with that. I don't think the manual specifies how close to the rear of the vehicle any of the lights or reflectors have to be. The specs for reflectors and lights are treated separately; there are no regs which refer to the relative position of the reflectors and lights, sideways, front and back or up and down.

Yeh sorry the tail/ brake and indicators must be all within 400 mm from outside edge of wheel cover. Is it measured from center of bulb?

Lamp/reflector lateral position is measured from the extreme outer edge of the vehicle (disregarding tyres, mirrors, lamps and reflectors) to the edge of the illuminated area (or reflective surface on a reflector) nearest that side of the vehicle. Chap 20
In most cases this will be from the outer edge of the mudguard to the nearest part of the lens.

Ahh so its from the outside egde of the trim on the wingstay to the start of the reflective part of the light unit. I have all in one light units so I am mounting them on the main rail at the back so I have to overhang them so want to keep the overhang to a minimum. The same as Craigs build.

Yeh sorry the tail/ brake and indicators must be all within 400 mm from outside edge of wheel cover. Is it measured from center of bulb? Guys, it's important to read chapter 20 Installation of Lights as well as chapters 21&22. Chapt 20 defines a number if 'principals'. So the answer regarding postion of the rear lights and reflectors is a combination of chapter 20 and for example tail lights chapter 22 Chapter 20 states (note 1) Lamp/reflector LATERAL POSITION is measured from the extreme outer edge (of the car)...... To the EDGE of the illuminated area (or reflective surface) NEAREST that side of the vehicle. So that's the HOW to measure. In the case of tail lights Chapter 22 then specifies the actual distance. The WHAT as 400mm These may help..

Just one small thing to note so there is no confusion ..The last picture is slightly wrong… min separation distance is 100mmm between stop lamp and fog …. NOT 400mm.

I remember when I originally posted spotting that typo. However cant find the original drawings to change. Thanks for pointing it out.

So made some adjustments based on the feedback. I went for Nitrams idea....thanks. Surely Mr IVA will be happy with this..... Two other question; how do I wire the rear/brake lights? There are 3 wire from the donor and 2 on the mev lights? I use the earth from the donor, but where does it go on the light unit? Also ,as its an import, do I take foglight feed from the rear lights then to the switch? thanks
