Question on on powder-coating and bushings.
For anyone that has powder-coated they control arms/subframes, were there any issues fitting the bushings afterwards, or was something done to prevent the internal surfaces from being powder-coated?

I didn't have any issues fitting my poly bushings after coating. The powder coater didn't protect where the bushings go, but he didn't intentionally coat the inside either. That left a finer layer of coating on the inside.

Made some more progress this weekend. Cleared out the garage and pulled the donor it its final resting place. Finally sold my other Miata (original donor candidate), after failing the inspection twice for tires and a serpentine belt. Swapped the wheels from this donor to get around that. Tried using the belt from this car, since I wont need either power steering nor AC, but it wasn't good enough, so I ended up buying a new oner from NAPA for $25 and putting it on again. Sold a lot of parts this weekend as well. Seats, soft top, fenders, bumpers, doors, hood and trunk lid are gone. Most of it went to the guy who builds SPEC Miatas. He said he would come back for dashboard and a tub once I pop them off. Made a lot of the money back that I spent on buying the donor. Very happy about it. Also the guy gave me a lot of good advice. Continued working on the interior. Dropped the steering column, removed airbags, gauge cluster, and the driver seat on Saturday. I like the new low driving position: Pulled the dashboard out on Sunday: And spent the rest of the morning removing the harness and all the components from it: Although I wish I had more time to work on this, I am happy the way things are going so far.

You're almost there! I just picked up my Sport at Exomotive and drove it back to Virginia. They have quite an operation going. Parts for about fifteen cars in various states of preparation. Got to see the new bodywork molds and their test mules as well. It was the first time I'd seen one in the flesh, and compared to a miata it's tiny. We're going to have a few builds in the area over the summer..
Good luck!

I have placed mine back in April, and I don't anticipate mine being ready before September. It should give me plenty of time to get the donor ready. Did you get yours powder-coated? What color scheme did you go with?

Made a little more progress on Saturday. Took out the blower and freed up more harness on the inside. Took off the steering wheel. Things are getting more challenging to remove. Removed few things in the engine bay. Radiator and a overflow tank is out. Removed the wiper assembly with motor along with window washer fluid. The engine bay is starting to look sparse. Saw something I did not like when I was draining the radiator: Will have to troubleshoot this once the engine is out. Hopefully not a big deal.

Made a little more progress inside on Sunday. Disconnected AC and Heater and pulled the interior parts out. Removed the steering column and a e-break. Pulled out the stinky carpet. Only the harness remains inside: In the engine bay, disconnected power steering and removed the pump, holding tank, and some piping. Removed the rest of teh AC system. It is starting the look roomy in there. The number of bits I want to sell keeps growing: I am lucky to have a service manual for the Miata that I keep referring too and plenty of tools on hand. Prior to this the most technical thing I have done with my car is change my own oil.

Plan for this weekend: disconnect brake and clutch lines, disconnect fuel lines, remove clutch and brake master cylinders, and remove brake assembly. After that, I believe the body should be ready to come off.

Made some more progress on Saturday. The harness is out. Feel very accomplished. Every single terminal is labeled. It is a beast and very heavy. The interior is completely stripped. Steering column is out, pedal assembly is out. Disconnected the fuel, brake and clutch lines. Disconnected the hand break cable. Drained the gas tank. Disconnected the sway bar end links. Should be ready to pop the body off next weekend.

Alex.. Have you made up the four 8" 2x4s or tubing to put in between the control arm to keep the corners up when body is removed.. On the end links if you are only going to be using car on road use the OEM type but if going to put on track with different sway bar and need fine tuning go with the adjustable units.. Don't forget to remove the VIN from the firewall might need it for paperwork later.. Nice build so far.. Did you get my PM about the door panels..

George, thanks for the advice. I am leaning towards the adjustable endlinks as well, especially considering overall budget of the projects. Do i need 2x4's even if the car is on jacks? I will get those these week to get them ready for the weekend. I will also cut out the vin from the firewall as well. I did see your message and have replied to id. The doors are gone. All I have left is bunch od internal trim and the bits i won't need in the Exocet.

Got your PM.. You won't need them if you are going to keep the sub frames on stands.. If you plan to move it at all after body off you will.. AS soon as the shock top hats are separated from the body(lifted) they will drop like a rock.. loosen rear axle nut before removing body..
