I finally bought the right donor today. It is a Black with Tan Top and Interior '99 10th Anniversary Edition with 127K miles on it.
Clear coat is peeling and the carpet is a little damp, but it is mechanically sound. Will post pics on the weekend, and then onto stripping the car and parting it out.
I have already put the deposit for Exocet Sport Kit back in April. Maybe around August, I might get it.
This is the second Miata I bought in the last month. The first one was 2000 SE with on 84K miles on it. It was in such a good shape, I felt bad ripping it apart. I have enjoyed it for a month and it will be going back on the market this weekend.

Alex.. FYI 10th Anniversary Edition Miatas only came in blue with blue/black interiors chrome wheels blue top and all the goodies.. KBB list all 99s as anniversary cars. Just check the crankshaft end play before you get into tearing it down.. If end play is 0.3mm or more the number 4 crank bearing cap and thrust bearing is bad.

I'll check it out the crankshaft. I'll also check with Mazda on the package. I don't really care about 10th anniversary, I just wanted to make sure the car came with a torsen, which it did.

We are doing it together with my father in law, who has some mechanical experience. I have never done more than my own oil change. I am in Northwest Baltimore County, so not too far from where you.

Do you mind if I ask how much you paid for your donor? I've been having a hard time finding one for less than 4k.
Also, where in MD are you? I live on the PA, MD, DE border.

I have paid $2900 for mine. It had clear coat bubbling up all over, and some moisture issues (started to smell). I looked underneath though, and no rust on the subframes and other components. I live northwest of Baltimore. I have bought 2 Miatas of Craigslist in the past month or so. The rule of thumb is that as soon as you see the ad pop up, head over there with cash and buy it. Good deals usually disappear the same day.

Great work, you'll be down to the roller skate in no time. Now sell off some of those body parts!

Wow you have a REALLY nice big area to work in, that will help a lot! Yeah. I lucked out with a build area. Once the car can't move on it's own (hopefully in another week or two), i'll have a two bay garage to work in. The van on the pic is going to come out, so there should be plenty of room.

Made a little more progress tonight. Only had a few hours to work on the car before kids had to go to bed. Took off bumper cover, bumper, lights and fenders: My helpers: Tomorrow, I will take the doors off, and then on Sunday, the car is going inside the garage where it will spend months until it emerges as an Exocet.

Spent another few hours working on the car this morning. The other Miata that I am selling had Racing Beat intake on it (sounded louder then stock, potential buyers kept asking about the noise), so I swapped them in the morning. It is already noticeable how much higher the Miata is sitting with all the stuff off. Removed the doors in the afternoon and took is for one last drive. It already feels faster and sounds nicer with the new intake. Will focus on removing the interior tomorrow.
