Ths car is finghting me to the end Went out today in preparation for the IVA tomorrow, only for her to empty coolant over the palce. Put me in my place though I am losing my test fee as the car will not make the test. for all it is there in terms of build, it is just untested and I want it to have more miles on the clock before then. Thought about trailering it, but my friends that have trailers have all went away on holiday just when I needed them how inconsiderate! ;-) I am a bit dissapointed with the brakes however, I just dont like the feel they are like binary, on or off, is this the same as everyones or have I not bled them enough? very hard pedal, is this just because I am not used to a car without a servo? have to say though, what a drive, it is fantastic on acceleration and am very happy with its performance. am running standard induction on a 2.0 litre engin and was looking to change to throttle bodies very soon after IVA, but I think i can delay them for a while, as I think this car is going to be good enough without. Gutted Andrew

What pads are you running? I changed my pads and it transformed my braking. Using mintex 1144. See thread on 3 out of 10 braking for more info or my write up on my recent track day.

If you hadn't bled your brakes enough they'd be spongy not hard. I doubt if the lack of a servo would make them 'binary', just more effort required for full application. So, most likely pads as suggested ... or something else!

thought I would put a quick update brakes have been bled again, (just for good measure and I am still not hthat happy so am going to look at pads etc. Here is a pic of the car when it broke down I managed to spray the raod by my estate with coolant, fairly sure that it was down to the hose clip used to block the outlet on the thermostat housing, how have others blocked this off? However, I still ahev an issue with the cooling fan not kicking in, if I disconnect the plug to the sensor, then the fan kicks in as expected however, if I connect the plug, I have not seen the fan kicking in, anyone any ideas? for the time being I would accept that the fan is on all the time just to be on eht safe side. Time to rebook my test. Andrew

To those of you thinking about a sonic, this build ahs been very straight forward compared the the robin hoods I have built. and the acceleartion is amazing. well worth the moeny and the time to build one as I am sure all other owners would agree.

Hi have you done any tests on the sensor. The sensor normally switches the fan relay at a predetermined temperature. It sounds like it is not working. Although I would not expect the fan to work at all unless you shorted out the switch. Is this what you are doing when you say that you are disconnecting the plug and the fan kick in as expected. Do you have a multimeter? You could remove the sensor and carefully hold the tip of it in boiled water to see if it switches, test it on ohms it should be a high resistance until it switches when the tip is hot. Give that a try. As a temporary measure you could wire a switch in place of the sensor so that you can manually turn it on and off. To help any further you might have to provide more info. Regards Andrew

> WOW cool looking car! love the black and white panels
I agree. I'd order my own Sonic in the same colors, but here in the colonies, I fear it would be mistaken for a police car.

Thanks Jack
Have to say I expect people to get out of my way when I come up behind them and they see it in their rear view mirror, but never expected them to think of it as a police car.

Barry, I believe the front uprights are from Rally Design. I have an RD set for mine.

Ok
Been a while since I updated the build thread
I took the car for a proper drive last night to get it to my mates garage
The grin has still not come off my face
I was truly shocked at the acceleration and I am now happy with the braking if anyone is thinking of one of these I have to say it is super straight forward build, great manual, and superb car to drive
I love it, I will update with photos tomorrow

LAst few things to be done are to sort the way the exahust exits, and cable tie and tape all wires etc.
