Thanks to all who contribute to this very informative forum!
I am researching my future Rocket build, and am interested in the best way to achieve 200 hp in a 2.0l zetec.
Option one: increase bore, (stroke?), compression, port and polish head, and try to achieve 200hp naturally aspirated.
Option two: Add forced induction to increase hp. Can the stock internals handle 200 hp? Or do I need to upgrade?
My definition of "best" is reliable for daily use on pump gas, and cheapest.
Thanks again.

A set of throttle bodies aftermarket ecu and fast road cams will get you 195bhp (at least that's what I got with those mods).

Funny, I just got back from a weekend holiday to bangor, maine! Your information differs from the ford focus tuning forums that I have been reading. When I did a google search for 200 hp zetec, most of the forums indicated that it would take a considerable amount of work (head work, bore cylinders, aggressive, and not street friendly cams etc..) to achieve that much. www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=203030www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=93548forums.focaljet.com/zetec-tuning/603049-200-hp-zetec.htmlDon't get me wrong, I very much hope you are right! I have absolutely no working knowledge of these motors, and am taking everything i read at face value. I am also very interested to know what kinds of performance you are getting at that hp. If you have 0-60 times that would be awesome! Thanks again for you comments.

This is my power graph after dyno tuning. iT WAS A NEW ENGINE SO I WAS TOLD IT WOULD FREE UP after a while and add about another 10hp (engine only had 150 miles on it!). That would have given me 185bhp. I also had a more restrictive back box on then which i have now changed. I had the throttle bodies, fast road cams and an aftermarket ECU at this point. 0-60 was 4.5 seconds. Oh yes i also had a decat pipe. Forgot about that! I have now had done the following work and am currently in the running in phase. i hope for 220-230bhp. Cylinder head ported and skimmed and larger valves fitted more agressive cams exhaust and inlet manifold ported higher compression pistons uprated con rods balanced crank lightened flywheel smaller alternator lightweight crank pulley Solid lifters (afternearly seizing the engine with the bucket and shim type) Hope that helps Tim

Thank you, Tim! That does indeed help.
Going into something like this is made more difficult by a lack of understanding what to expect in the end. I would love to have a "race car" that I can drive around and the Rocket seems like just the ticket. However, there is always the concern running around in the back of my head that I will just be driving around a race car shaped Ford Focus!
Having tangible information, like your chart, and explanation of upgrade modifications, and a forum to facilitate sharing the information makes me want a Rocket that much more!
Thank you.

Well, what I paid and what they are worth is 2 different things. I have been given it for a very reasonable price. But 2-2.5k for the bolt on would be a decent money item. Im gonna start off with low boost for about 250hp, then try the other pulleys included in my deal and up it to the point just before charge cooling is required. Then leave it there. Lol I got an omex 700 to control it all too. Should be quite nippy

Hi Jon, The link below is the kit I have which has been developed for my car initially but now is available for any Rocket (mid engine version kit). You get a lot of bang for the money and without any internal or external mods you can reach 220bhp. All you will need to add is an intercooler, which depending on what you want, can get very cheap. You will spend far more than this kit to get 220bhp naturally aspirated and this supercharger gives a very smooth torque curve which is pretty much essential in a transverse/mid engined car. www.rotrexsuperchargers.co.uk/Rotrex/pages/products/engineDIY/Ford20/prod_ford20.html
