Decided to ditch the centre console pod I had made. I really wanted it in carbon so set about making a mould to make it. It didn't go well Then decided to put the dash on the bonnet instead. And mounted the Start button on the steering column cover Much happier with the look. Fitted the carbon side rail covers I bought from Mabbs

One little job the certifier asked me to do was have a secondary method of securing the bonnet in case of the primary (Aerocatch) failing. So had a little clip and wire made up at the yacht place. Mounted it as so. Does the trick. Made the last two wiring connections, one of these was for the fuel gauge and it needed a pull down resistor in the circuit. The problem I had previously with the resistor was the legs were quite thin so I wanted something a little more solid. Came up with this. It is a blown fuse and an in-line fuse holder. I used the Dremmel to cut the plastic away from the fuse legs then soldered the resistor to the legs and now, whilst not the neatest soldering job, it is solid as.

Took the car to the tyre place and had the wheels laser aligned, which went fine, then went to sort out a VIN plate. Unfortunately though one huge problem, and I mean HUGE, has arisen. I have run out of jobs to do and parts to fit
Well I do have to check the steering wheel is dead straight, it was about one or two splines out and hopefully is now correct but it needs a check then off to final cert. No one prepares you for this it means I am going to have to do jobs around the house again

the dash in the centre off bonnet works well love the position off mine only bad point is that my son can see it and nearly dropped me in it with the filth :-(

Looking good Rob, does this mean the Rocket can come to Wellington this weekend??!

The Rocket is hopefully going to see that nice man Bruce to start final cert process on Friday. Unfortunately it would appear that Bruce has broken his leg in an altercation with a large touring bike I will hopefully find out tomorrow what this means. If I can't get it in for cert then I may just have to slap the cage on in prep for the street sprints the following weekend, hey a man has to adapt Either way it looks like I won't get to Wellington, number off issues and bad timing.

Unfortunately that nice man Bruce is unable to certify until next month, booked in for 2nd of March so had to find things to do to occupy myself. Took it down to the town centre on Thursday night, the road was closed off for the display of any car or bike that could be considered "hot". This is happening every Thursday this month prior to the Americarna meet. Only American cars in that though unfortunately. Within minutes of arriving in the Rocket I had enquires to sell and had "pulled" a hot chick Mind you the Rocket didn't get the biggest cheer of the night, consider that the road was full of hot rods, American muscle cars, vintage cars and flash bikes. The crowd favourite was the bloke and his five year old son who went up the road in a pedal powered Thomas The Tank Engine Today I have been tweaking the bonnet in order to allow final fit off the roll cage. I figured that if I can't get it road legal just yet then I'd better take it to the street sprints next Saturday. Hopefully I don't bend it

Awesome Job, Rob, really very very nice build, and I am sure to drive. You have done such a solid job of the build, it will be a challenge to find upgrades you want to do. I am sure there will be something!

Added some foam strip under the bonnet to neaten the fit. In order to fit the roll cage I had to "tweak" the bonnet, will fill in and neaten off later. Then the roll cage was fitted, took about ten minutes to convert fully apart from time to add padding to chassis members. Also added an extra drivers mirror as the cage obscured part of the normal mirror, also attached a fire extinguisher onto tunnel. Then took it sprint racing, separate thread for that one, I only bent it slightly. mevowners.proboards.com/thread/7734/rocket-escapes-new-plymouth-nzNow fixed and ready for final certification inspection on Tuesday

So Red n Shiny was left with the certifier today, he's pretty thorough and will kick and poke it for a couple of days, mainly filling in all the required paperwork. Picked up a VIN plate on the way down. Asked the guy what the regs were on getting it registered new and he told me it all comes down to mileage, less than 250 km and it's new, more than 250 km and it's used. That was lucky as my various "tests" have already put 200 km on it Also asked him whether the use of donor parts, such as a used engine, would have made a difference, apparently not. Simple eh? Also sat the exam for, and passed, my first level motorsport licence

Ok, to be honest it was not without a couple of hitches. Number one being that there was a degree of uncertainty over what year to register it - 2012 - The year the kit arrived. 2013 - The year the build started. 2014 - The year the certifier got involved 2015 - The year everyone thought I had forgotten about it 2016 - The year I finally finished. In fact in was thinking the other day that is almost 4 years to the day when I first saw the kit Problem two what exactly is the thing called (a slight paperwork disarrangement of the official title of the vehicle). Come on you need something to report as a problem at the final inspection otherwise folks would think it was easy Will be collecting on Tuesday, off then to get the final WOF (MOT) and do the road registration etc. Apparently then my wife gets to "drive it to work with one of her girlfriends" - how does that work
