I took the cheapest option to weight saving - lost 2 and a half stone (predominantly from the midriff) over the last 18 months. I make that around about a 16kg loss for no cost! Got to be the way to go

Hell yeah. The amount of times that's been mentioned to a mate of mine when he's been shedding the weight from his car to get 1/10th off his 1/4 mile times... I think he weighs around 16st

That'll be about the same size as me then Mind you, I am 6'5" so the belly isn't overly big any more - could just do with getting rid of another stone and that would be a further 6kg lost and one belly gone.

2.5 stone, thats impressive!!!
you have a very valid point though, you can spend vast amounts of money to save 2.6kg.... I reckon popping a few laxatives before you go out in the car would achieve the same;-)

Just bear in mind though, it's not just the savings in weight with changing something like the calipers and discs, you're actually getting an upgrade out of it as well

I went to the Exeter Kit Car Show today with the main objective to see in the flesh and sit in a Rocket as I am almost decided on one for my next track car. However I saw this new lightweight Exocet today and it's put me in a serious quandry. I'd not even considered the Exocet until seeing this one today - the white scheme and the wings absolutely transform the car's looks. I've always been frustrated at how compromised most kit cars interior space is and I always feel like I am sat on them rather than in them. I also don't like cars with not much beside you as they make me feel like I might scrape my elbows on the tarmac! But the Exocet chassis is a great place to be - you feel nice and low and the 'swell' shape to the chassis gives fantastic elbow room and protection. I was aspiring to an Atom hence the attraction to the Rocket but I can't stop thinking about the new Exocet... I didn't get chance to meet Stuart today but many thanks to Paul from RTR and the lady in the MEV jacket (so sorry I didn't catch your name) for their time and answering my questions. Now then Mr Mills, when do you think you'll be selling the white demo car and please can I have first dibbs??!!

The Exeter show last year was where I also decided to go down the MEV route - prior to the show I had pretty much decided on a GBS Zero but found the welcome, as well as the products, much better at the MEV stand. I'd guess that the lady in the MEV jacket would be Julie - she keeps Stuart in line I've pretty much finished my build now, not a bad effort from concept to reality in 12 months even if I do say so myself. You could always go for doing the build yourself if Stuart is reluctant to sell lightweight 001 just yet...

for those of you with the 650kg exocets, what engine are you using? the standard miata engine and how much does it weigh?

Certainly not! I am still in love with it. However we can make another one for you. Let me know if you wish to order one. The white one is going to be raced next year in the 750mc race series. We have not finished it yet but the MK2 engine is going to put out between 170-180 bhp if comp is as good as the one we dyno'd with the TB's on. The side pods and nose cone etc are all availabale for the standard Exocet too. Stiggy, how about making it as light as humanly possible by using the lightweight swingarms Tim posted in another thread a while back. www.v8roadsters.com/PhotoGallery.asp?ProductCode=TubCtlAnow that would be special. I recon based on the luck ive had selling the two donors, the extra cost of the lightweight could be saved selling on the subframes and fuel tanks etc. I also think (by my calculations) that $1800 to £ is £1100 and that the unused swingarms would cover some of this also. Not much info but the standard arms are fairly chunky, and these would look cool and must be substantially lighter too....

Thats a lot of money for 8 arms though. How are you getting on with number 2 Alex? Who did you get it from? Did you P/X number 1? What colour is the grp? Are you going to put the Omex £1750 175 bhp kit on it?

Part X with Steve Daniels, and yep, that is a lot for a few bits of tube! would be interested to see the weight savings it offers.
Number two is going well, its a lot easier when you've already done one and know what to do and in what order. She's completely stripped down, and the subframes and suspension arems are off being media blasted as we speak. just tarting up the engine and gearbox, then when its all back in a week or so i can start the build up.
Happy to say the second donors made £1600 in parts sales on ebay, so its well worth a little extra for a nicer/newer donor. this ones satin black frame, with black GRP which will also be a mix of matt and carbon.
Going for a light version at about 650kg, and a few engine mods this time. speaking to OMEX Tech at the moment.

Certainly not! I am still in love with it. Of course you are, I should have realised that - I'll ask you again when you're about to embark on your next wonderful creation... Which, may I suggest, is an Exocet with an RX-8 donor - they're getting cheaper every day...! Seriously though, is an RX-8 built in the same way (i.e. body can come off leaving engine/box/subframes/drivetrain/PPF)? Now there would be an easy way to blast through the 400bhp/tonne barrier! The more I think about it (and since the weekend I've been thinking of little else), the more I like the idea of doing my own build. It would get me off my arse in the evenings and stop me eating biscuits and letting the s### that is on tv these days turn my brain to mush. First things first is to source a new mod for my current track car; A nice big vinyl cut FOR SALE sign for the back window...
