Hi I am looking at building a Exocet in the near future and this lightweight version looks amazing. Its probably just excitement and wishful thinking but are the tank, seats and wheels included in the £2850 (+VAT) We then made an alloy tank and fitted GRP seats and very light wheels ect. The options shown are spoilers (£119 each from Ebay), different mud gaurds and a dash pod (£45) plus side pods (£85 a pair) in front of the rear wheels. Daytime running lights (£6 from Ebay). It is also an option to buy a bolt in MSA spec roll bar at £300. Hi, the seats are £180 per pair, the wings are a free choice, the tank is £150 or you can use the MX5 tank if you wish.

I can never understand why kit car manufacturers quote prices excluding VAT. How many of your customer do you think can claim the VAT back on a kit? I always quote what we charge, not what the government charge. We are un paid collectors. VAT on a lightweight is £570. It's actually law that if you are selling goods to a consumer the selling price must be shown as the final selling price inclusive of vat and any other taxes. You can display the ex vat price alongside if you wish. It's part of the Price Marking Act but unfortunately is not very well enforced.

After seeing this and the price difference against the standard exocet am unsure, i think the idea of the smaller lighter structure and the incorporated subframes is good but the weight saving just doesnt justify the extra cost for me, am i right in saying that there is now 3 option for the exocet standard £2640 including vat 800-850kg lightweight £3420 including vat (not including extra options 750kg race series £3600 including vat but also a full welded steel chassis and roll cage ?900-950kg im sure with some light weight wheels, seats and few other parts the standard one could be made close to the light weight one depending on extra's fitted. Still think my option when i place my order (hopefully early next year or see what santa brings) will be for the standard kit. Still i think the white lightweight looks brilliant and i can now for see a race version with lighter tubular chassis, tubular sub frames, welded floor and roll cage which would just be awesome

The average standard Exocet car is around 660 kgs, the lightweight is 32 less but can be lightened further to under 600 depending on wheels, seats etc. The race cars have a control weight including driver, some will need ballast to ensure a match.

Encouraging figures Stuart.
As you know, Mark and I have already ordered the first customer lightweight.
Our argument was that its impossible to save 32kgs on any other single component - nowhere near that. No point in trying to lighten the car later knowing you didn't do everything you could with the fundamentals. It depends on what you want it for of course.

660?!? Bejesus i was thinking more like 800.
That's a whole new ball game.
If you were serious about the MEVX5 body on a lightweight chassis that would be tremendous!

Yeah im sure when it was first released everyone was saying around 800-850kg as the weight saved off the shell was around 250kg, nevermind if it is that then 600kg is awesome, is there anyone that has built there exocets had them weighed as would be interesting to see how they compare. If the standard one weights in at 660kg then with my supercharger that will make mine (if running at 170bhp) 262bhp per tonne. Also the light weight 300bhp per tonne i asume is running a 1.8 engine with the race tuned 150bhp output?

Am i right in thinking to obtain 300bhp per ton the lightweight version must come in at 500kg ( 150bhp figure x 1000 = 150,000 divide by 500 (weight of car ) = 300 bhp or are my maths totally wrong

A nice set of F/G seats and some 15" Team Dynamics Pro Race alloys would help Oh, and bin those heavy cast discs and calipers

Hi Mr Freak. How much weight saving could be had with alloy calipers and lighter discs, I have a car you could put them on for testing as a special favour to you!

I can weigh the ones on the MX5 tonight. Do you know the weight of the standard caliper/carrier/disc and pad? If not I'll whip one off the other chassis.

Ok, we've been out and done some checking and weighing. The standard caliper, with carrier and part worn pads weighs in at 3.5Kg. The standard 255mm disc weighs in at 4.3Kg The Wilwood 4 pot caliper, with custom aluminium bracket weighs in at 2.3Kg The 280mm disc with aluminium bell weighs in at 4.3Kg The other 280mm disc from the Vw Corrado G60 which is the other cheaper option weighs in at 5.6Kg (no picture, but going on Brembo's disc specs) So... Standards with cast 255mm disc 7.8Kg total Wilwood with cast 280mm disc 7.9kg total Wilwood with 2 piece 280mm disc 6.6kg total

Meaning the lightest option, as always, is the most expensive. But it's another 2.6Kg overall
