Hi Ned
Your connector questions. I believe the connectors are as follows;
Throttle position sensor (three wires ) Haynes Manual 3759 ( Mk1 Focus 88-01) Wiring Diagram 12.30 Item 45 Throttle position sensor (three wires )
Haynes Manual 3759 ( Mk1 Focus 88-01) Wiring Diagram 12.30
Item 44 – Cylinder head temp sensor ( two wires ) UPDATED - Item 42 – Camshaft position sensor
I assume your new engine is a mk3 unit as the Cylinder head temp sensor has moved from the aux belt end to the g-box end. I also opted for a new 1.8 engine but it is a mk2 unit. I found the wire colour codes to be the same on the mk1 and mk2 1.8 engines.
From the pictures I see your aux Aux belt tensioner installation. The design has changed and you need to use an extension bar to get the tensioner correctly positioned. This was updated in the build manual 6 months ago but I just checked the latest version on this site and it has reverted to the old design. I can get a photo of mine at the weekend or someone else may pitch in with theirs.
CAUTION. Expect a wiring mismatch as follows if you are using Mk1 ecu and engine bay loom with new engine loom part.
Haynes Manual 3759 ( Mk1 Focus 88-01) Wiring Diagram 12.30 Item 44 and 45 have common supply
MK1 had common volt supply for items 44 and 45 above. New loom on my mk2 engine has separate supplies for these components. All other plug pin connections the same between mk1 and mk2 . To get the temperature sender working and enable proper idle and fan control I had to re-create that common voltage supply by joining the wires up. I can send pics of my correction to the loom if required.
Good news , in my case the engine would start and run without this fix but idle control was poor and fans defaulted to always on. To see if you have this problem look at the plugs on the loom and see if you have the same pin arrangements.
Yours is a great looking build.
Good luck
Daydreamer.
Apologies - updated to correct mistake, just went to check on my engine in the garage.

Think the hoses are to do with the fuel return carbon filter that is not used so they are not needed the manifold connections need blanking off they are for brake vac etc and fit a filter of some sort to the cam cover outlet sorted hope this helps Bob

Hi All It's been a while since I have actually done anything, busy at work, but hopefully should start to calm down abit. Did manage a few bits and bobs though. Bought a new Odyssey Extreme 25 battery and bracket, along with a battery level meter. It cam with the CTEK charger, has a nice charging point on the front. . Got the seat runners a few weeks ago, so started to fit them, nothing too fancy, just jointed them with a piece of box tubing, raises them enough to give the correct tilt and movement. . . Eventually got my new wheels, after 4 months of waiting, so decided to fit them and also re-fit the rear wing stays. . So did an initial fit of the Wings, they need some tweaking but they don't look too bad. . . So this is how it looks so far. . Hope to have all the body and fabrication complete by end of March, then have a couple of weeks holiday at which point I will hopefull finish of the Electrics and get it running. Ned

Ideally looking at getting it IVA'd in May some time, at least that will give ma a couple months use if we eventually get a summer.
How is your build coming on, you hoping to be on the road by summer. If we both get it done we could have a run out and meet up with scottie and the other guys out east.

Hi Ned
A Run out when the cars are finished would be great. But my build is dependent on the weather as I don't have a garage to work in. I would like to have it done for the Newark show in June if possible.
Cheers Andy

Thanks Jim,
Starting to get a bit frustrated by how slowly things are going at the minute due to work but I'm plodding on.
The wheels are Wolfrace Assassins, had to wait ages for them to be back in stock. They are quite Bling Bling, lets face it the rocket aint a low key car so I thought, what the hell, got them for a good price including tyres, bolts and fitting kit. Thanks to SKIDS in Falkirk.
Been looking at foot rests, think I'm going to put the battery and ECU behind the drivers seat, got really nice Lazer cut brackets for both the battery and ECU so it would be a shame to hide them away.
You must be bursting to get your car back from RTR, you need to get loads of pictures uploaded on completion of the IVA, as well as any tips for pre-IVA inspection.
Cheers
Ned

Hi All Well, after several days of sawing, filing and cursing I have eventually managed to finish the wing stays, what a crap job that is. Don't know how others have managed but getting 17inch wheels to fit under the Bevel wings is not an easy task. Having finished that job I needed to do something that would show a bit of progress so decided to put the rear lights on. . Then fitted my nice new K&N air filter using some bits and pieces from the old Focus system. . . Once that was done, I fitted the new Air Temp Sensor that comes with the omex kit, just drilled a hole in the piping for the sensor to screw in, will seal it once I'm happy all the electrics are done and working. . . I've got 2 weeks holiday coming up the first 2 weeks in April so planning on breaking the back of the build during that time, namely the lecky and getting the engine started. Still undecided on whick clocks to get, the KOSO or the Dash Pro 4, all down to cash really. Ned

Hi,
The build looks great so far!
Can I ask how you secured the seat runners to the chassis, did you just tap the chassis to whatever size the bolt is or did you do something else? also what is the thickness and dimensions of the box tubing metal you used for seats?
Thanks

Unfortunately I didn't take any pics when I did the rails as my camera was playing up. If you look at "mark's build diary" I did something similar to Him. Actually it was a suggestion by mattsmev, as he did it on his build.
Mark has some good pics on his thread.

First couple of hours of my time off and I've managed to get a few loose ends finished. I've decided to relocate the battery to behind the drivers seat along with the ECU. . Also drilled the holes for the fuel lines thru the rear bulkhead to the tank. . Since I had drilled the holes I carried on and finished fitting the fuel lines to the engine, along with fitting the fuel filter bracket, just need to get a new filter. Eventually managed to start on the centre console, I bought the RTR switch bracket so thought it was time to assemble it with the switches. Still deciding if I will put the display on the console or on the steering wheel. First need to decide on what display I'm getting. . Few other things done: -New 450lbs springs fitted to the rear and the 300lbs moved to the front. -Some spacers fitted to the right hand drive shaft. -Some Titanium exhaust rap put round the manifold. -Front bulkhead fully fitted and steering secured. Just need steering wheel. -All front brake/clutch lines now secured to front bulkhead. -Accelerator cable fully run to engine bay, just needs connected to throttle. Just waiting for some adhesive heat shield for the rear bulkhead then that will be fitted, then I can secure the fuel tank. Spending the next few hours with the old wiring loom to get the Fuel pump connector, reverse connector and cut out as much spare wiring as I can to assist with the lecky stuff, Ned

Well had a few days off so sorted out some minor jobs. Still a lot to do, jobs that I thought would be relatively simple have turned out to be a right PITA. Still on target to complete all the body work and fabrication by the weekend, ready to start the wiring. Did manage to sort out the seat runners and supports, wanted to make sure they would be sturdy so a lot of work and tweaking has gone into them. I owned a Peugeot 308 for a couple of years and started to suffer from back pains and couldn't figure out why until I discovered, with the help of Top gear that the drivers seat is not positioned fully in front of the steering wheel, the driver actually sits slightly to the right hand side very hard to pick up on but it always felt a bit strange just couldn't think why. So anyway a couple of pics.

Well I've been away with work for a few weeks so haven't had a chance to get much done. Had a couple of days on the car last week but unfortunately I am now down in Plymouth/Portsmouth for a week or two, unsure yet. Again sorry to Matt for being away it would have been good to have you give the car the once over. Anyway here's what I did manage to get done. Fitted the new Idle wheel and new fuel filter that I got from Unipart, make sure you order more than £15 and you get free postage, so the wheel did only cost £13 and 9 for a fuel filter. Quite funny to see how big the original belt is now that all the other bits and bobs have been removed. Sorted out the 2 connections on the Omex loom that don't fit, first the Water temp connector then the idle motor connector. Fitted my Sparco Sport steering wheel and additional buttons. Just need to sort out the wires so that when I turn the wheel they don't get tied in a knot. Then collected my nice new dash2 display, Cheers Andy. Quickly wired it up to the battery to check it out, all working and quite fancy, a lot going on in the display will need to sit down with the manual and disc to figure it out. Then it eventually had to happen, couldn't delay it any longer and started on the Electrics. Only go by the device name on the relay, the names on the fuze boxes will be getting changed once I get a bit further ahead. Did manage to wire the horn up, connected it to the buttons on the steering wheel bracket, wiring all good horn worked at treat, very loud actually but good to know I'm doing it right. Wired all the feeds from the battery to the relays (Pin 30), then wired all the Grounds (Pin 85). Don't want to teach anyone how to suck eggs but I've never wired a car before so it's all new. Here's a good picture of the wiring of a relay. . So hopefully connecting Pin 86 and 87 using the Mev Loom should be relatively simple. Well that's probably it for a week or two til I get home, still hoping to have it finished in time for some time during summer. Ned
