Chris's exocet nightmare

Hi Guys

I've been lurking on the board for a while nicking ideas off people and cracking on with build.

She's coming along well with not a massive amount left to do:





I'll upload the full build story when I'm done. If there is a mistake to make, I've made it to name a few:

Shearing off the bolts from the donor chassis to the skate at the top welded end meaning that they just turn instead of undoing.
Snapping all of the bolts on the front hub so the wingstay cannot be simply bolted on
Forgetting to properly secure fuel line to filter resulting in worlds most flammable fountain
Removing brake pedal then realising could not bleed brakes the next day
Turning engine over with coolant and power steering hoses no longer connected but still full of fluids

The driveway looks like a mechanical warzone but the car started successfully yesterday.

I've got a couple of questions for anyone out there that may be able to help?

One is the seats. I would like to upgrade the seats for the mazda ones, however would like the new ones to be reclining and on sliders. This is due to the variety of people that will be driving the car when done.

Was looking at these:

Does anyone have any experience with them or any other alternative that may fit into an exocet?

Two is the exhaust on the mk2 Mazda doesn't fit the exocet, what have people done about this in the past?

Dude called nitram sorted his with some cuts and other parts, are there other options?

I know that kit car building can be frustrating, I have had the same problems with the rear lower hub bolts requiring drilling out aswell.

Regarding the seats, the mx5 seat adjuster could be replaced with a small thin metal wheel maybe to give you the adjustment. I have smart car seats in mine & had to muck around with the runners aswell. Other seat options would be used Westfield seats or even Vauxhall Zafira fold up seats, I can't remember there exact measurements, but get those and see how they mount. Universal runners are available. I just walked around my local scrappy with a tape measure.



With the exhaust, you have a few options, Paul from Huddersfield used an exhaust specialist to make his one up or you can fabricate one yourself. If you type Hornet exhaust into eBay, they sell a universal kit with various bends etc to help you to build your kit. Personally I have purchased some straight tubing to make my own (mild steel). There are various sizes of exhaust parts on eBay, boxes & bends etc, just measure your exhaust diameter & get stuck in.

The easiest & cheapest route is to buy flexible exhaust pipe & just run a length between the cat & back box. Performance wise it will restrict flow slightly, but financially it's the cheapest & easiest option.

Another question for anyone out there.



I've plugged the harness back in and literally everything works perfectly except for the indicators and hazards.

I saved the lights from the donor and all original switches and plugged it all back in.



I've definitely got all of the earths sorted, back lights coming on including hazard, all fuses working and all bulbs fine.



Before I look at other issues and trouble shooting I have a couple of plugs driving me insane:






In this pic I don't know if these need plugged back in, one is airbag related so I assume not, the other no idea?




This picture I've been lying awake all night thinking about. The top plug in the image with the two green wires coming in from the right. I have no idea what plugs into it and have searched the loom to the extent nothing does.

Could someone post a pic of theirs and what plugs into it from where on the loom.
Or ideally confirm Mazda put it on the car for fun as a novelty connector.

Don't think either of these are related to the indicator issue but want to rule them out.

the plug with single green wire is horn as when you press it grounds out sounding horn and the other is air bag which I have just left alone and removed air bag warning bulb from dash hope this helps.

I had the same issue and I believe there is one more connector that you need to join up. It was located up near the the heater fan box on the doner car.

I know you said you checked fuses, but have you checked the flasher relay is OK.
