You should ask for a permit to go to your workshop - it's definitely "essential".
Totally agree on form before function. That's part of the reason I decided to do a half-gill if you will with the likely addition of a slider to close it off completely. The footwell does get pretty warm and those vents will draw that out which is not a bad thing.
The gills could be used to vent the brakes with a duct from the inner mud guard out to the vents.
While on the subject of ducts, I'm going to be adding a duct from the front grill, around the radiator and up to the air filter (like the original had) - pics to follow.

I've been struggling to get the car (NB) to pass emissions in my state. I'm only allowed to have one "not ready" monitor and both evap and egr monitors have refused to become ready.
I had for some reason convinced myself it was something to do with the vacuum lines being connected up incorrectly or something of my doing from the build but the car runs perfectly and I have no check engine light.
I finally tried something that I should have tried first which is to pop the original gas/petrol cap back on. It didn't fit all the way down because the neck of the filler is flush with my new petrol cap and the black top of the original was hitting that lip.
I carefully pried off the black ratcheting top leaving me with just the functional cap and it also sits neatly under my old-style cap which is a bonus!
I ended up trimming off the top white plastic ring which works in conjunction with the black cap for the ratcheting, just so that I could get the whole thing to close properly.
Went for a 10 min spin and checked the OBDII on my return and presto! evap monitor was ready. I'll finally be able to get the wretched R (for Rejection) sticker replaced with a proper one.

It looks like your aston style cap doesn't have a non-venting locking insert fitted to seal off the tank properly (which the EVAP system has detected and hence why you've had to modify and fit the original cap.)

The Aston style cap did have a sprung insert (note the threaded part under the cap) that is supposed to seal inside the neck of the filler tube but didn't do a good enough job. This works for now but knowing what the problem is, I'm going to fit a bigger sealing surface under the cap and see if that works.

I was wondering if there was any preferred/recommended method of installing a roll bar. The one car on the forum (Racing Replicar) that has one doesn't go into much detail of how/where it ties into the frame.
Ultimately I'm looking to add a single hoop for the driver side rather than the double wide bar.
Any info and or pics would be much appreciated.

Brettlawrence this forum fitted a roll over bar but again did full width rather than single Cobra type hoop.

Currently have my chassis at a fabricator to hopefully fit it out for a bolt on roll cage. I will let you know where they decide to mount it.

Road Runner Racing added some mounts for removable twin hoop roll bars on their first customer build as he wanted to use occasionally on track days. I discussed with Mike at the time and he did explain it was quite difficult to get the required support and bracing needed.

Found out that my local body shop guy is a dirt oval racer kinda' guy and has a crazy asymmetrical looking machine he tears around in. He thinks he can help but will have to take the body off and nip down to him in the bare frame when no one is looking
