I have used some Fluoro lined silicone hoses and the standard mx5 filler routed it to come out of the side of the tank behind the drivers seat. Where do you get that hose from mate and is it IVA friendly? Think mine was ash silicone hoses, mmm IVA not overly sure in that but it does say oil and fuel resistant and that is what it’s designed for

Just been reading into the fluoro hoses more and it says suitable for vapour. My thinking is it’s only going to have petrol in for a short time on filling and then vapour, so I’m hoping there should be no adverse effects. IVA I’m keeping my fingers crossed they will be happy.... someone please feel free to correct me as I will need to rip it out and go to flexible fuel hose.

Points to consider.
1. Is there any likelihood of fuel sitting in the pipe due to sag? If so it is not suitable. 2. Is there any marking on the pipe saying "fuel" or petroleum? If not then it is probably not suitable. 3. The IVA man is unlikely to ask you to remove the rear cover, you say it's a big job to remove it, you fitted the cover and then attached all the pipes and wires to it. Normally all there is to see is the filler pipe from the MX5. 4. In the long term is this material going to break down and leak on the the exhaust which is directly below? 5. I used the MX5 pipe, free and it fits. Why not use the MX5 rubber pipe as a joining piece between your welded items?

I looked at using fluoro but concluded that with a fullish tank the pipe would be immersed at the tank end and so veered away from it as not being worth the risk.

Trust me I tried to empty a mk2 tank by stripping all external pipes and then tipping, inverting and teasing the petrol out and they wouldnt play. Loads of safety in the Mazda tanks, but as Stuart says, if there is sag then fuel will gather there.

Having had issues with slow filling (which I will update on when I am sure it is resolved!) and making modifications to my hoses, I went to test it out today and discovered it hadn’t resolved the slow filling. However, In addition it was soon obvious that I had a leak at the filler connection to the tank. What I was most surprised at was when I then tried to remove the hose (with the fuel gauge showing 1/2 a tank - and my guesstimate from distance driving agreeing with that) - the fuel was well above the bottom of the filler hole and started gushing out! Rapid action to replace a hose and mop up the remainder was needed!
So it looks like anything over about half a tank will have the fuel to the height of the filler connection - so make sure it is well fitted and sealed, or you could have issues!
I have replaced the clamps on my fill hose (the wire type clamps just weren’t effective) which i think has resolved that issue - and I am hoping my filling problems may also be resolved by an improvement to my other mods. More to come in a few days once I am sure of no leaks!
