Pistonheads SOTW is a Honda Accord blah blah 210 horses naturally-aspirated VTEC donor engine with LSD and free lump of steel and plastic attached for under £1500. www.pistonheads.com/regulars/ph-features-sheds/shed-of-the-week-honda-accord-type-r/37677Look to be quite a few decent parts (Recaro seats, wheels, spoiler, SS exhaust system) to flog on the aftermarket, making this a cheap donor. Ok, it's driven 7 times the circumference of the earth. My daily driver has done a good deal more and it still gets admiring glances anywhere I park it (here anyway). Getting to 210 with a Blacktop would need £1500 of headwork, cams and £1000 or so of ITBs and manifold, just ask Paul. Talk to carlyd or deanohonda to be talked out of what it's a straightforward build... I already have a custom loom, ECU, my gear selection doesn't work and have just cut off my Zetec engine mounts anyway, I'd nearly be tempted myself...

My engine was out of a T Reg (2000) Honda Accord Type R and had only done 54,000 miles,I only paid £900 for the entire car, but I stupidly had a full engine rebuilt which wasted another £2k.
I managed to sell the interior, wheels, steering wheel, airbags, doors, bumpers, bonnet & boot lid (with big spoiler) and lots of other bits (ABS pump, Power Steering Pump etc etc ) for more than I paid for the car.
The H22A7 is a fantastic engine, revs to 9,000 rpm and sounds amazing when in Vtec. If you've never driven one it feels a little like a turbo when the Vtec kicks in, just not as aggressive. 210 bhp - 220 bhp as standard which is upped with a decent exhaust and air filter on a rocket makes it worth consideration. All of that with Honda reliability.
It is going to cost a lot more (as a rough guess I's say £1,500 - £2k) to build with the Honda engine but absolutely worth it in my opinion and I'm sure Deano will agree.
I am actually looking for a Honda Accord Type S or Executive with the K24 (2.4) donor vehicle for my next build which says a lot about my experience of building using a Honda engine.
The K24 has 188 bhp but has more torque and with a 6 speed gearbox.
They are around the same sort of money but you get a lot newer for the same money (so usually less mileage) so if you are considering a Honda powerplant this is a good choice. They use it in the Ariel Atom and Nomad.
