I think the car in the background may have been a Ginetta G33? I’m sure there was one there that day but didn’t see it on the track just in the paddock.

Good call, I think you're right. Nice looking car. Thanks!

While I’m waiting for my new shocks & springs to turn up I thought I’d stiffen up the rear subframe with some leftover angle iron from my tyre rack project (still need to paint it). The original MX5 rear brace had rusted to nothing so I’ve been running it without one. Before: During: After:

Watch your clearance on that angle bar, better to use tube or flat steel bar. That will catch loads of bumps most likely.

I was thinking I might trim it down a bit, it’s 50mm angle across the back and 40mm down the sides. By line of sight it only looks marginally lower than the floor pan. I’ll take a proper look when it’s on the flat tomorrow.

If the rear angle is too low rather than cutting it put a bend in it?

If the rear angle is too low rather than cutting it put a bend in it? It’s 3mm thick... I don’t have anything that can bend it!

Can't you just flip the whole brace over so the sides go up instead of down to improve clearance? The exhaust maybe a little close though?

I offered up a straight plank along the underside of the floor and the brace was 25mm below the floor level so I trimmed it (still crazy strong), painted it and am now happy with it.

So I trashed it a bit last year and then rebuilt it again! I set up a timelapse of the 6 weeks it took to re-assemble - watch it here:
