Hey guys. My name is Kristopher. I'm currently on a forum named MX5Atlanta. I owned my beloved 2003 MX5 named Elizabeth for 3 years before hydroplaning on the interstate and ending up under a tractor trailer truck.. I've had plans to purchase another 2003 within a couple years, but the job market here is scary for someone that just has assembly work under their belt. Anyways one of my friends showed me the awesome kit car that you have named the Exocet and i read how it fits onto the MX5 platform. I'm definitely growing an interest into this as i am a huge power to weight ratio kinda guy. My questions so far are... #1: Will i be able to keep my car left hand drive if i built it? #2: Is it street legal in the U.S.? Any help is greatly appreciated...thanks

Hi Kristopher,
I am also from Atlanta and am in the middle of building an Exocet. (kevinpatrick27 on MX5Atlanta)
1. Yes. MEV has created a left hand drive version of the chassis. 2. Yes. Georgia made some changes to the kit car laws in 2008 that should make it fairly easy for us to register it as an Assembled Vehicle. There is even the possibility of us being able to keep it registered as a Miata - it will depend if we can convince the inspector that the Miata's frame is the PPF... but I'm not holding my breath. My kit arrives later this month and I hope to have it done in time for spring.
The biggest issue for us in the US right now is that the Exocet is proving so popular in the UK that MEV has suspended supplying them to the US so they can keep up with their market. Might be a while until they are available again for US customers.

Sweet. By the way everyone can call me Kris. I was just tryin to be formal lol. Thats cool that you're from Atlanta. I'm from Newnan which is about 40 minutes south on I-85. Sucks that it will be a while before the LHD's will be available to the US but its ok because im currently unemployed and dont have the funds for it. The job market here in GA really sucks right now. Did work for Yamaha for 3 years until the economy took its toll on the company and they had to downsize, but hey shit will turn up eventually and i'll be back on my feet and in another MX5...and hopefully an Exocet

The MEV demo car weighs in at 700kgs. That weight can likely be reduced further with lighter wheels, seats, brakes, tank, etc.

so that's only a little over 1500lbs. Not bad It'd be like shaving close to 1000lbs off the 2003 MX5 I had, Which would feel like i was gaining the equivalent of an extra 100hp. So i go to a monthly car show here called Caffeine and Octane which consists of restored classics, muscle cars, and a lot of "wetdream" exotics. I noticed that someone had a fully street legal FM Westfield so i dont see any reason why the Exocet couldn't be legalized.
