So it begins, i have spent just over 2 years looking into exocets and i finally want to jump into building one. Im going to look at an mx5, mk2, 1.8 later on today so hopefully its the one for me. Aprat from the engine, chassis and sub frame. Is there anything else that i need to look at that is important for the build/kit?

Welcome aboard... To some extent depends on whether you plan to use donor suspension, wheels & tyres, seats, brakes, exhaust or are planning to replace. Another tack is to consider whether the donor spec allows you to sell some valuable bits - hard top, good soft-top, leather seats etc. Good plan is to be able to drive it as is for a while - so some remaining MOT is useful. Good luck.

Depends how mad you are going with the build. If your going to uprate clutch, brakes, exhaust , suspension etc then the condition and specification of that stuff is less important. If your going for a more standard / less crazy build and will be using a high percentage of parts, then picking a donor with an all parts in decent condition and any extras you want (lsd, 6speed etc.) May be more important ?

Thanks for the info guy's. I have been to look at the car and I'm happy with the condition of various parts. I'll upload pics and specs when I drive it home Monday.

1.8 Arizona, mk 2, 87,000 on the clock full service history. exterior is alittle scruffy but engine is looking nice and oil free. Hard to find anything wrong with the car apart from someone installing a new alternator wrong. Drives well too. Time to start ripping it to bits

Birdy33.. Welcome to forum.. just look for a good running and rust free as you can find.. rust sucks.. Please add a Signature line to your profile see how to below.. It will help with trouble shooting any problems you post.. Keep and book mark www.mellens.net/mazda/see the 2005 service manual and 2001 wiring.. the 99'01 service manual will help with some things. Print off the wiring pages when you get ready for that part.. Put them in a plastic pocket to keep clean.. Label all connectors take pics use 6 point sockets on all rusted bolts/nuts. Have fun stay safe..
