As you can see from my pics, in the correct mk1 orientation, as Craig said, the tabs just don't line up at all. My car is a mk1 1996 uk model.
When you reverse the tank, the tank filler spout is really close to the roll bar cross brace.
I think that the issue is the mounting points have changed. If you open up the picture below (mev exocet), the tank mounts are flush with the rear chassis rails, where as on my g type, it has raised bent over pieces of flat steel.
This is why we are frustrated, to get the tank to sit in the correct mk1 position, we need to put new brackets onto our freshly powder coated chassis. Clearance is an issue on my chassis, yes you can mount the tank under the chassis rails of the exocet, but you still will not correct the orientation, or the really tight bend required for the fuel filler pipe to join the tank if it stays in the reverse position. Clearance between the bottom of the tank and the rear sub frame looks like it could be an issue if we mount the tank under the chassis rails rather than above.

The correct orientation for the Exocet is shown in the build guide. The tabs are correct. The picture above shows the older, longer, wider chassis that had a different rear cover.

I get the idea of making the bulkhead out of 3 pieces for simplicity and access, I will make the centre tunnel removable but I will still make the bulkhead from one piece as it's the attention to detail that makes a good build great.
The side panel noticeably overhangs the front by half and inch even when spaced 5mm at the back like the other side. I will add a picture later.
I intend on mounting a battery box and storage compartment (for my helmet) behind the seats and fixing them to a rigid bulkhead so it will have to be ali for me.
I've my the G-type ones work for now but I might look at it down the line.
I can't throw away a good tank I will make it work.
As I said it may seem like a long list but in know way do I regret anything and would recommend buying one in a heartbeat. I guess it's just my selective OCD and a strive for perfection

Every Exo I've seen has the tank turned and the filler on drivers side.
Except for where people have modded and put it on top of the tank.

I've just checked my G-type side panels, they could be made a tighter fit but the return edge is in board so not really noticeable. If anyone would like the driver side shortening by a few mm then please return and we shall alter.

I was sure that the mk1 was designed to have the tank fitted as per Mazda, but mk2 onwards were rotated with a slight tilt hence the discussion over reduced capacity ?

If you push it forward it is noticeable, if the extra is moved rearwards it is behind the rear wheel and not seen. But as I said before you posted the picture, I am happy to modify if you are not happy with it. We are trying to improve all the time and are always happy to help builders find solutions. Perhaps you did not see my post.

I haven't had a chance to go though all the posts as yet I took the pictures to show that both panels are mounted in the exact same position at the rear and that they are not "pushed forward" as you can see from the drivers side it is a perfect even fit. I haven't tried to over emphasise one or the other.
With the front wheel wing, the tank cover and now a side panel it's getting a little large to send via courier so I will have to bring them in person. If you could let me know when you have the exchange units ready I will try and plan something. Thanks

Browno’s fitted his and they look great. I’ve built a Zero and honestly they have their issues too. Maybe I’m just used to the kit car world but you have to be a bit giving in what is not supposed to be a 15k kit package from Caterham. It’s all good fun and Stuart always offers to help in my experience.

Agreed Stuart is and has been amazing, none of us would be here without him and for that I think we're all grateful. But to quote the late great Robin Williams "if you're not moving forward, you're standing still". Perfection is available even with kit cars.

Standing still is not on our agenda, we are walking carefully but swiftly towards our goal, perfection.
