Looks like we have quite a group here in the Bay Area. Getting ready to add one more! Going to be a bit of a slow start here, current lead time on the kit is about 3-4 months. Gives me a chance to get the chassis ready and do some more work in the garage. Had the car for a couple years now. Bought it explicitly to build an Exocet but decided to track it for a while first. Miata is on the track but I never really drive it on the street, just not enough entertainment value. With a bunch of track days out of the way I at least have a pretty good idea of what I'm working with. It's a '99 with 130k miles on it. Since buying the car I've done all the cam/crank seals, timing belt, track brakes, Flying Miata suspension, etc; Should be a decent starting point. Track day at Laguna Seca last year

Goal for the weekend was to get the wiring harness out....which spiraled a bit out of control..... Starting on the interior Closer Well shit..... Got a bit carried away and ended up pulling the body off. Took about 2 days to get to this point. Still need to pull the gas tank and a few odds and ends from the car, then scrap off the body so I have some room to work. Once the body is gone will start to take a good look at the PPF and see what needs to be replaced.

Hi Matt,
I'm in Fremont and have started on my exocet build as well. My first post here as a matter of fact.
Good luck!

Finished stripping the body today. Big item was to get the fuel tank out. Went fairly smoothly. Also went down to the DMV and got a junk slip so I can get my garage space back. See if I can get Pick n Pull out here soon to haul off the body. Fuel tank

Awesome! There certainly are a few of us running around the Bay and a couple being built now. If you need any help, let me know. I'm always game to lend a hand.

Good progress! You'll be there in no time.
On a side note, it seems to me like the Bay Area has the biggest concentration of Exo outside of Atlanta ? We should definitely do a Bay Area meet soon.

Pick n Pull came and got the body today. Nice to have some space to work again. Side note, what is this guy? Next to EGR on the back of the manifold, has an electrical connection plus some vacuum lines.

Got a little done today. Rolled the PPF outside and cleaned it up a bit. Also removed the steering rack so I can start to de-power it. mmmmm clean... Steering rack ready to be worked on.

Little bit of work done on the chassis today. Got the EGR block off in place Also went after the rear diff bushings. After seeing all the work some people go through for this I feel some sympathy for our friends in less temperate climates. Dropped the diff down and hit each bushing with the air hammer. About 30 seconds per side was all it took. Popped the new ones (Mazdaspeed units) in with a ball joint tool. Also replaced a bad ball joint and started reinstalling the steering rack after de-powering it.

mattd.. FYI.. You have the diff bushing in 90 deg off.. the void spaces on bottom and slits spaces on top should be facing front and rear not side to side as you have them. sorry..

Interesting, had no idea they needed to rotate a certain way, thanks for the heads up. Is it just a matter of how the bushing is designed to absorb torque?
