Steering wheel for IVA

Hi guys, anyone got any tips on what steering wheel to choose for the iva?

Donor already had an aftermarket wheel fitted which won't pass.

Well what's wrong with the aftermarket one that will cause it to fail?
If its the momo wheel fitted to some models that should be fine, if necessary make some padding to cover the spokes with foam and vinyl material.

I think it was only sharp edges and any holes in the spokes the IVA don't like as you can trap fingers in there, oh and wooden rims too apparently.

Thanks for the reply, I was under the impression any metal spoked wheels needed to be padded for the iva? Not that it matters because mine is a momo wheel with wooden rim 😂.

Thanks JGilbert, I'll bear that in mind if I have to go down that route.

I didn't really want to have to buy 2 wheels as I wouldn't be using the one I have for the iva anyway if it would pass.

This is my Momo steering wheel. passed with no issues at all. Got it off eBay second hand for £30. There are copies of this wheel on eBay as well which i steered clear of as I wanted something good.   I would rather get the genuine article and know its not going to break halfway round a bend.  


There is on on eBay now but finishes in 2 hours. Only £20 + postage at mo mo ment

Admired your build for a long time and probably stolen a lot of knowledge off you as it's my first build. I live on the south coast too and have never seen you out in your car much to my dissapointment haha.

Where about's are you on south coast then?

I live in Eastleigh, I've always assumed from your YouTube videos that your live near the new forest?

Yeah, not far from J2, I had the car up and down the M3 past Eastleigh a number of times as I work in Winchester. How far into the build are you?

Hoping to have mine finished and ready for this summer, but we shall see. I'm a student so only really have the weekends to work on my build and its the first time I have never attempted anything like this before so I'm taking it slow and steady. If I spot you around I'll make sure to give you a thumbs up I drive a white mk4 mx5 usually with the top down no matter what the weather 😂
