Hi All,
Seemingly silly question, but I've found no-one with a similar issue when searching. My throttle cable, when hooked up to the gas pedal with a fully backed out adjuster sits at 25% throttle (according to my MPNP2). Has anyone encountered something similar? I was going to order a new cable, but don't want the same problem again. I didn't drive the car very long before I started the exocet, but I don't remember it idling that high.
It's on a Race chassis and the donor is a 92 miata 1.6 if that matters.
Any advice?

I have MSPNP2 on a 1.6. Are you sure you have a throttle position sensor? Have you tried backing out the idle screw? Have you tried disconnecting the cable from the throttle body to make sure that the problem is actually with the cable?

Yeah - it's fairly obvious even without the pnp, it just puts a number to it. When disconnected from the gas pedal the throttle closes (that's how I calibrated the TPS), otherwise it's @ 25% throttle, "idle" (even adjusting down the idle screw) sits at 2k. It doesn't even come close to closing. I tried a few things tonight, and I've come up short. I might buy another new one to see how it compares length wise and then work from there.
I think I could make a bracket to "lengthen" it, but I don't really want to come to that.

Do you have some photos of the cable setup?

I have the exact same problem as OP. I bought a new cable hoping my original was messed up some how but it just doesn't reach. Here is a photo of the cable coming thru the fire wall when its suppose to be at idle. If I connect it the throttle sits at about 25% open. imgur.com/d1vHy0W

The issue seems to be the welded on spacers behind the brake pedal assembly. I have been known to cut them off and plant them on the opposite side of the plate. BUT that could push the column shaft too far in the UJ on the rack.

Ouch, naughty word, the forum Police will slap your wrist if you don't edit. Schools buy MEV's and use the forum so we have to tread carefully.

apologizes, I fixed it. So best bet would be to figure out something that works.

If you can post more pics it would be helpful.
The cable (at least on a 99) is actually inside a flexible sheath. Peeling back outer layer of the sheath and trimming a few of the metal rings off it can serve to extend the reach. The cable isn't any longer, but it's functioning length is.
Not 100% sure if that makes sense, but that's how I extended mine a half inch without having to cut the cable.

Just bend the pedal bracket.

Do you have the bracket for cable on the intake on in the right direction.. Is cable plastic grommet all the way seated into the fire wall hole you made..

gwnwar - The bracket on the intake is in the right direction and it is seated cleaned in the firewall. dietcoke - Seems like a easy fix doing that. calibuild - If I end up doing that ill upload a photo of what I did. Ill upload more photos tomorrow afternoon.

Did you ever get this solved? I ran into a very similar issue on first start yesterday. I adjusted it to the stop and I'm still sitting at a ~2200RPM idle because there's no slack. I can hand close the throttle body to get it to the right idle, but if I let go it jumps back up.
