I keep seeing build threads and exocet owners mentioning the slow gas filling issue with the factory fuel tank.
Is there a solution to fix this and allow normal speed fueling? And if so, what is it?
Thanks!

The fuel comes out of the pump hose foamy, and backs up in the shortened neck. I was thinking of a rigid vacuum cleaner hose inserted into the filler neck, and filled from the top of it. Anyone game to try?

No problem at all filling as per below, all parts are from the donor. Watch out if experimenting with alternatives though, pipes need to be suitable for petrol.

Have you tried another gas station.. Seems like station equipment high pressure and air getting mixed to cause the foaming bubbles..

I use whatever station is nearby. Some do seem to flow better than others, but still quite slowly. I can pull the filler out and watch the foam fill the neck, then rapidly retreat when I stop filling.

I'm buying an exocet, so I don't have one to dissect yet.
Would this be an issue on the exocet, or have those of you having problems already removed or modified the flip-over baffle?

I use all factory filler parts except I cut down the metal filler neck to fit under the Exocet cover. I also used longer vent hose and formed a 180 degree loop where it connects from the neck to the tank. I did re-use my factory anti reflow valve like the one in the video but on my 99 it is a 3 valve design like a heart valve. I can fill up at any of the local stations and several I have used to and from a trackday with no problems of speed or flow and no leaks while filling or on track. It works as good as stock Miata or better. My only fuel filling issue is when I use a gas can and have to stick the gas can neck deep into the filler neck and it gets caught when trying to remove it on the metal flapper right at the gas cap area. Not a big deal and no fault of the Miata parts or modifications.
