Cheers guys, took a year and two weeks from getting the doner, to getting the iva passed, a lot of swearing, and a lot spent on special parts, but it was worth every penny and hour spent. Turbo already to go on too just need reg number now.

I printed out the iva manual, then read it cover to cover highlighting all relevant parts and removing all parts of the manual that didn't concern the build. (Printing it out also makes it handy during the build). Then each time I started a new part of the build I would re-read the chapter and search the forum the before starting. I did my iva at Kidderminster, guys who tested it said Id clearly understood the manual, and because of that I don't think they scrutinised my build as much. I had two guys do my test and have to say they were great, couldn't fault them.

It is amazing how much demonstrating that you both understand what is required and have met the requirements counts when dealing with the inspectors.

It is amazing how much demonstrating that you both understand what is required and have met the requirements counts when dealing with the inspectors. Couldn't agree more......I found the VOSA guys very helpful and fair, and not out to trick you. I failed my first IVA on weeping banjo unions on the rear brakes (which had materialised late the night before whilst doing some enthusiastic braking in our cul de sac to bed the pads in...). I owned up to the fact that they were weeping even before the inspection started.....think that actually went down well, rather than them "finding" that there was a leak! Other than that, I'd failed to replace plain nuts with nyloks on the seat brackets - an oversight, and a couple of bolts were not protruding far enough through the nyloks elsewhere. Plus, as the tank was sealed in another enclosure behind the passenger seat, he couldn't inspect the tank itself to check it was sealed properly. Getting the cover off is a pain.....but he was happy for me to just remove the cover for the re-test, which I did. Martin

I used a clear 5mm acrylic held in with CSK screws then when the fit was perfect I took them off and tinted the inside of them. Best bit is, if you get bored of the dark tint it can be changed to any colour you like.
