I have a short shifter (which I really like a lot) and still had to cut mine like Sean did. Also used the Racequip boot.

Made a bit more progress yesterday .. fabbed up a 'straightener' out of a long piece of wood and an extended drill bit. Works great for straightening new lines, but not so well to unkink a wrong bend. Also fabbed up some tabs to hold the brake lines. Thought I would need 4 but instead only needed 2 for the front brakes. The rear brake tabs are still on the subframe. Brake tabs in action .. The Exomotive kit came with just enough lines to make everything I needed + roughly 4 ft of spare for mistakes / ect. Flaring turned out to be pretty simple with the proper tool ( thanks Colin! ). The hardest part of this job was actually making all the bends to figure out how much lines I needed to run, then trying to take it all apart again to cut to the correct length and flare. Bending and unbending to take it in / out of the car put some little kinks in that I wasn't able to get all out. If I was to do this again, I would definitely get all the lines ran BEFORE mating frame to chassis. Also got the radiator mounted up .. its starting to look more and more like a real car .. LOL

Have you ever tried to use a length of coiled spring slipped over the tube to bend it to shape..

No, I marked the bend mid corner radius with a sharpie and bent it afterward with a cheap tube bender. The spring sounds like a good idea though.

Little self induced annoyances keep creeping up costing both time and money.
Found out today that my throttle cable mount tab was broken. I must have damaged it while removing that tab and never noticed. Ordered a new cable on ebay ..
Installed new ARP lug bolts in my hubs, then went to mount the brakes. Found out I'm missing ONE rear caliper bolt. Ofcourse its the M10 FINE ( 1.25 ) pitch thread that no local retailer carries, so it must be special ordered. Looking around at prices for single bolts online, I'm tempted to order ARP replacements. Urg.

Had the same problem and had to order 100 x M10 40mm @ 1.25 pitch. Ironically, they were manufactured in Vietnam. Happy to send you a few, but might take a while in the post from UK

I know because I had to buy two this last weekend. grade 10.9, M10x1.25 in the metric bolts isle.

Thnx Sean .. I went to Fastenal and Home Depot without luck .. then not feeling like running around all day, only searched on OSH / Lowes site and I guess the inventory is not really accurate on there. I was able to find it easily in the store.

Interesting jwagner, is your shifter the MiataRoadster one ? Don't know. I bought just the shift lever off miata.net for $35 with no docs. Seemed like it was worth the chance and it worked out.

I was able to find it easily in the store. OSH has saved me many times with their selection of metric hardware. They carry a pretty decent class 8.8 M6/M8/M1O assortment kit (with washers, lock washers, and nuts) that has also saved me a good amount of hassle from missing bolts, nuts and screws.

Made a bit of progress today .. She be rollliiiinnng .. rollliiiiing .. Can't believe how light and easy to roll around she is. Can't wait to get the engine going. Alignment definitely needs some work. Perhaps even the steer rod end ball joint as wheels toe out a bit. For now I tightened up everything that I could reach with my wrench. Some of the bolt in the back wheel well was pretty well hidden. Bounced on each corner a bit to let everything settle before tightening and those coils are definitely STIFFF. Will make more attempts later. Done for today. The two wheeled children needs some love.

Did a bit of spur of the moment 'black friday' shopping today. Its off a salvaged '00 with 160k miles on the clock. Seller was a shop with ferrari, lambos, benzos in the front, but 8 junk miata and a bunch of other misc stuff laying all around behind / around it. That plus the low asking price made me think it was a chop shop, but ran the VIN and its clean. Engine itself looks like crap cosmetically but seller swear up and down it was running when he pulled motor ( yesterday ). I told him I would only buy it as a 'core' and somehow we made a deal for $180. First thing I did when I got home was drain the oil. As expected, its gunky and black as night but no 'cream', so that's at least one good sign. Will leak down test tomorrow. A brownish, see through-ish fluid leaked out ( into my van carpet actually .. even though I already put some cardboard and blanket down just in case ). Looks like old coolant to me but thought I would ask to make sure.
