So as with all my best buying techniques, I made and offer on this and won it. Now I am wondering what the hell I have done.
The 'Kit' is more Half Started than Half finished. From the look of it the subframe has been stripped and painted, wiring harness removed and hmmmm butchered. The chassis has then been placed on top and a few random bolts added just for the hell of it.
I have enquired about a chassis bolt pack, but having looked on the American build site, it lists which bolts are needed, so may well try and source these myself.
The floor panels have been riveted on, but I feel he got bored half way round and had decided that 'less is more', so the chassis needs to come back off, so I can double check everything, and even drill off all the rivets, why he never ran a sealant along the edge before riveting the panels on I will never know?!
It looks like he has run a random brake line along the PPF along with a bit of loom wrapped in tacky plastic! This will be re-done too.
The car/kit/shell/pain is at my workshop in Hertfordshire (why does everyone seem so northern?) and around me in other workshops are mechanics, engineers and a metal fab place. And they all owe me favours!
I would have rather put this in the exocet part of the forum, but as a newbie I think I will head in there with questions and keep my build blog to the lonely place called XS!.
Pictures will follow when I am feeling brave enough to show the world!
Oh and does anyone know why the XS was discontinued?

Ayup yer southern shandy-drinker! What's thee gorragin Northerners? I just looked at the owner-locations-map and there seems to be no N/S bias in ownership so it must be down to the gregarious natures of the northern members! It may be that there is a case for subsuming the XS board into the main Exocet board ( The Management ) Stuart may help you in respect of the bolt pack and demise of the XS.

Have spoken to Stuart regarding the bolts, so now know what I need to source. And will await with anticipation as to why the XS stopped production. Plus I feel I will be getting very little work done around here now I have something to stand and stare at!!

So here I am, in the lonely world that is XS!! I have now taken off the chassis to make sure everything on the PPF is bolted down and right. Also want to run the fuel lines along that as the brake line and some of the loom is already there. Thought I might try and get the car running without the chassis, again to make sure I check everything. And also to make sure it does bloody run!! So its a matter of working out the loom, along with all the chopped wires, and hey... not one single labelled connector. But I do love a challenge. I even have another MK1 1.8 turning up this week to give me something to compare it all to. The first problem is the floor has been riveted everywhere but along the outer edges, maybe this was because it is a tube, and how do you put the floor to the edge, not have a -2.5mm radius from the floor and get a rivet in there?? #confused. So the floor will have to come off, but that will leave me with loads of holes... Do I weld these up and try and then try and dril back through some welded sections? Do I re-rivet where they already are (there are lots!!) Frame has been powder coated black already, but I feel having read through lots of builds on here, that I may start again and weld on brackets etc where needed... Having my own sprayshop is going to come in handy me thinks!!! So here she is... on her side and waiting!!
