Exhaust Silencer and IVA

Im a long way off but I was just having a read of the IVA and it states that a silencer "MUST" be used?

That seems odd, surely as long as the DB levels are within the limit it should be ok?

Anybody had any experience with this?

I was hoping to fit a new exhaust system from the cat back excluding the silencer.

I'll be amazed if you can get the Db rating below the required reading without a silencer.

Mine failed with silencers fitted.

I ended up fitting to temp baffles/Db killers which brought it just below the limit.

Ah ok, Im planning on taking it down the local exhaust shop to have a custom exhaust fitted so will have to get them to fit a new silencer then to be on the safe side

Have them put flanges on the silencer and make you a tube with matching flanges to bolt in later..
