Hello everyone, I went to remove the front wheel hubs today so that I could get the caliper cover off and look at fitting the front stays, but as with everything so far the MX5 is pushing back It looks like I need a special tool to press the wheel hub off, is that right? I was hoping for a straight forward 29mm nut like the back, but i dont think im that lucky! ( Ignore the surface rust )

If you can get to the bolts just rip it off you won't need it on the fronts

New caps are a serviceable replacement just spray lots of wd40 on the shield plates you will not need the front plates only the rears

I've just tried a 30mm socket on the rear hub nut, and it's too small. Seem to remember reading on here (somewhere) that the f/r were two different sizes? So I may need to get a 29mm for the front (wheels not yet off) and a 31/32 for the rear! Enthusiast's Manual just states 29 (or 1 1/8 AF).

Thats spot on FIN, front is 29mm and rear is 32mm You dont have to remove the rear hub unless your planning a complete strip down and refurb, you can get the rear stays on with the hub in place (just about) TIP - if you are planning on removing the rear hub, loosen the bolt while the wheels are on and the car is on the floor, i found out the hard way that once it is on axel stands the hub just spins when trying to undo the nut lol

Thanks for the tip Shane. Still struggling with the long lower control arm bolt, so took a break to take the prop shaft & PPF off the rear. Also drained the tranny & engine oil. Need some small victories sometimes Have a good weekend!
