everyone seems to have trouble with these. Not sure why, I have fitted 3 without issues. I have now started hinging from dash end. Apparently it is difficult to get the grp close to the chassis rail across the dash end. Trial and don't drill, panic, scratch head, try again, give up, order alloy rad mounts. F.O.C if you cannot make yours work. Please have a go though. Ah well, that's my weekend sorted! I'll let you know how I get on.

Trial mount bonnet tomorrow, and then learn the dark art of fibre-glassing.

Love the front hinge set up. When we attempted our flip front, flexing and potential stress cracking were our biggest concern. Ended up building a tubual frame and bonding this to the underside of the whole bonnet. This continued with tubes running down the side of the nose where the pivot point was. Couple of photos. Here you can see the nose detail. This was then all 'glassed' to the underside of the bonnet. @jgilbert Thinking about similar tubular re-inforcement to the horizontal bar hinge on the radiator mounts. Can I ask what bonding agent you used? Also, when you glassed over it, how many layers of matting did you use? Thinking in relation to securing the GRP seats to the MEV seat mounts.

Hi Fin,
I'm no expect on this but, I used a combination of chopped and woven G/F matting, 3/4 layers should work. Use small pieces of chopped matting for complex areas with 'sharp' changes of direction/angles. The key is to avoid air bubbles or dry matting which will have limited strength.
You can see on the photos where I used P40 (resin and chopped fibre repair paste - pink areas in 2nd photo) to fill potential voids.
Good luck,
J

I got Shane bonnet on had to move bracket up then cut bit of grp got it to work Think it would work if I moved the hinge strap up on the plates rather than redrilled and moved the plates up on the chassis??
