Hi I'm building an Exocet and have this idea to locate fuel filler under the rear pod . I know I'll have to hinge the pod , after reading the iva it states filler Cannot be fitted in luggage compartment, so my question is would the rear pod be classed as luggage compartment if there is no floor under the tank other than a heat shield Any thoughts ??

Don't think it'd be classed as luggage but think it may end up being a pita. I'm not saying don't do it, just think about access and how often you'll have to do it.

I like the concept and can't see there'd be a problem re Luggage Comp - but you could always call a test centre for advice? I guess the lights' wiring and some form of 'stop' are the only constraints. You might want to check installation of lights section 6 re. "boot lid" in the open position in case there's anything in that?

Thanks for replyslight issue was my second concern but can get over this by fitting lights on a bracket from shock platform or from bracket from inside rear pod as for how often I'd have to open pod I think I can put up with the odd times I have to refill tank. I will look into this further when kit arrives in 2/3 weeks I just think filler cap spoils the look of the pod and I don't want to put battery behind seats on show restraint for pod can just be a small chain from chassis to pod maybe fixed behind no plate . It's just an idea at the moment mainly for pod lines and fuel theft? Thanks for input

Having built my Exo I'm not sure how a hinged rear pod would work? The front facing face of the pod is a close fit to the roll bar uprights. Thing this would prevent the pod hinging forward or backwards? You could 'cut' the pod so that the front remained stationary and the cut section hinged. Seems like a lot of work for a little gain. I mounted my fuel filler on the top of the rear pod and that works well. I also cut a 'door' into the front face for access and some storage. No problems with my IVA.

Thanks jgilbert Not having the kit here was not aware of how close the rear pod was to the roll bar so maybe this is a non starter so will have to come up with another idea. Like the idea of storage area

Hi I was thinking of fixing rear pod with hinges with a slot cut in them so they would slide back say 50 MM. and then that might give me the distance from roll bar to be able to hinge backwards . Pod fixed behind seats in closed position , light issue overcome by fitting aero rear wheel guards with lights fixed to wheel guards, final say I suppose will be Ive centre

Ok, I understand the ideas but not convinced on the suggestion imho. What problem are you trying to solve with having the filler under the pod?
I came to the conclusion that my colour scheme isn't lending itself to catches, clasps and fillers on show so for the filler I'm taking the oem route and having a lift up flap of body with the filler underneath.
You could do that without having to hinge the entire rear pod.

Ok see your point about pod the idea was to hide filler and give better access to battery but I might be over complicating the solution fuel flap is an interesting idea . How are guys fixing pod ? Just bolting it down ?

There's a link in my build thread that discusses these, I'll see if I can post here later.
