Hey guys,
To appease the authorities I will be getting a DOT glass windshield for the Exocet. I've found a lead from a kit car part maker who is helping me plan out and build a windshield frame for the race chassis that would attach to the A pillar bars and possibly brace off the top. Mounting details are still TBD - but will likely use the same clamps the ATV community is using. That part will fall on me, but he's taking care of cutting and bending C channel to fit.
If anyone else is interested let me know and we'll see if we can get this as a pseudo-standard aftermarket kit of parts to solve the "I need a race frame windshield but my frame doesn't have the Exomotive windshield frame" problem.
I've been searching for about a week for a source of custom windshield frames and have been frustrated by custom shops giving $2k estimates... A bunch of us need this for registration, so hoping we can co-develop a solid solution that others can leverage.
Pricing is still TBD, I just sent dimensions out for an estimate. Think more Locost, less hot rod.
Moderators, if this kind of posting is not allowed, please remove it or advise if we need supporting vendors etc.
Thanks!

Silly question perhaps, but why not get Exomotive to sell/send you the windshield frame and have it welded in?

I'm interested. I want something to divert the wind as it's much more pronounced then I thought it would be.

Stig, just sent you a PM. The builder is quite close to you actually, would be great to use your frame for some test measurements and mock up when it gets to that point.
Zeitgeist, Greg, will keep you guys posted on progress.
Steadfast, I may reach out to see what options for just getting the frame would be, not a bad idea. Ideally I would like a removable one for time trials. My near term need is to just get any DOT glass windshield for registration.

Hey guys, To appease the authorities I will be getting a DOT glass windshield for the Exocet. I've found a lead from a kit car part maker Hey, I'm not that shy, go ahead and name names! But I'm not really a kit car part maker (though I want to be one when I grow up), mostly I make parts for scratch builders; people who are building a car from their imagination, or a book, or some combo thereof. I've had a 50 State Legal Exocet windshield on the back burner for a couple years, originally just for the Exomotive Sport chassis, but now it looks like a Race chassis windshield kit is a good idea too. Kevin gave me an ok to pursue the project to its logical conclusion (which is to actually make them) so I'm hunting for local (to me, that is--Eugene Oregon, most of the time) Exocet builders/drivers who will let me do test fittings on their cars.

Is Cincinnati, OH close enough, Jack ?!?! If so, my Sport chassis is a willing participant !!!

Is Cincinnati, OH close enough, Jack ?!?! If so, my Sport chassis is a willing participant !!! Well it's a whole lot closer than Mansfield England. :-) I'm posting here because a lot of US Exocet owners/builders follow this forum. Please pardon my multiple forum (GRM, FB) postings, I'll lighten up once I've found some models nearby.

Can you share your basic concept for this, or is it

I've got the welded race windshield frame from Exomotive but have not spent the time investigating a source for DOT glass. If anyone wants the measurements I can take them tonight. If the glass you guys are looking at is compatible with the welded size requirement, I'd be interested.

I'm not sure where you are located, but these guys should be able to help: www.sandersreproglass.com/I think Exomotive can give you a template for the glass if needed.

Can you share your basic concept for this, or is it Sure, no prob, except my initial drawings were based on a car that had its windshield raised for engine clearance, and I thought they were all like that--so it's back to the drawing board to change the rounded notch that fit over the 1-3/4" (US) round tube at the front of the cockpit one of the two yellow chassis tubes shown). The blue bits are steel sheet, laser cut and bent. The little notches on the top front of the stanchions go over a locating pin; I'm planning to change that (my goal is no mods/damage to the Exocet chassis) but that's what I've got now to keep the front of the stanchions from sliding side to side. The two lower bends in the stanchions are to stiffen them, and the third bend (near the back) is to twist the stanchions so the part where the windshield frame fits is perpendicular to the mirror image face on the opposite stanchion, and the second bend line is parallel to the edge of the last 8" or so of the hood. The hood fits on top of the horizontal surfaces, and inside the vertical surfaces. [long pause while I fiddle with photo loading] Okay, please hold. I'm on the road and this forum apparently won't take a directly uploaded photo--it needs an url for a photo already posted somewhere else. I'll get to it as soon as I'm back at the shop.

Looking forward to seeing your design. I like the full frame I was just going to build one like a model A frame but you may have found a nice solution.
