Evening moggers,
This weekend I will be picking up my mx5 to start stripping it down for my Exocet build. It's a 98 UK spec so it has the slightly wet 90bhp engine...iv read info about swapping the cams from an early model or import to up the power to 100-110 (depending on the website you read the info on) Has anyone got any experience with this? And does any one know for sure what the difference between the 90 and 115 engines are? Some people say cams, some say ecu, different Pistons with a lower compression, no oil spray on bottom of Pistons (unless you get the auto box) Anyone know for sure???
Thanks guys

Can't help with the question I'm afraid....but I'm sure there are plenty on here who can. But welcome back to the forum r16 - long time no see . Good to see you're embarking on another build. Martin

This was talked about on Miata.net awhile back. got this from thread.. To get the full 115 hp, but needs US or pre 94 Euro camshafts and pistons. The biggest difference is achieved by the camshafts.. There is different thoughts on weather you will need the early 90>93 ECU too. Why not add a turbo or supercharger with pulley changes.. or go to a 1.8 engine after IVA. You could try adjustable cam gears.. Have you checked with Ebay for early 1.6 heads/cams there is a couple on there now don't know year you could call seller.

Thank you both.
Martin - it has indeed been a long time. Iv wanted to build another kit since I had to sell the rocket but just haven't had the time or the funds. Glad to be back on it :-)
Gwnwar - just had a look on ebay, cams are about £50 so a good value 10-15 bhp

Is there a visual way of seeing if you already have the camshafts, I have a UK 93/94 1.6 so am wondering what power I have Cheers Dave

Why not get a donor engine with the 115bhp instead of spending time/money converting one to a higher bhp. Also for any sort of worthwhile engine ugrades forced induction is the way to go which ornicly the detuned 1.6 engine has the best gains from turbo charging.
