The Red and Shiny Rocket escaped again yesterday, I don't think it wants to go to the vet on Tuesday.
First it donned a roll cage and lots of padding.
Then it went out to play. The event was the Taranaki Car Club Sprint Race at Paratutu Rock, yes you know it well!
Format was a series of two lap sprints, three cars on the track but separated by about ten seconds on the start line and hopefully no-one caught the man in front because there was no overtaking allowed. (Drivers were seeded to minimise the chance of this)
My first go should have probably been the fastest as the rain set in after that, yes Red and Shiny became Red and Wet.
However a series of missed gear changes put the end to that!
Here is a video of my first and second runs, I have synced the start as close as possible (within a second) and it is clear to see how much time the poor gear changes cost me in comparison, particularly the last one.
Note also that the biggest factor in the time was the useless driver, poor lines, poor gear changes, rode the clutch, usually one gear too low, not committed enough into the chicanes, the list goes on. However what can't be seen is the grin F*%k was it fun.
Also note the matching black and red racing suit. I did, of course, try to get a Red and Shiny one but it appears flouro shell suits are not allowed
Unfortunately one car slid into the kerb just over the crow of the hill on run three and ripped the nearside wheels off, it was then "caught" by the following car who was not aware of what happened till he crowned the hill and then shot through a fence. Well it was that or the disabled car!
No-one injured but it caused about an hour delay in which I forgot to turn my camera off and flattened the battery so no more video I am afraid. (Lucky you).
Unfortunately I also bent my car
When putting it on the new tilting trailer I discovered that the ramps were not quite long enough, so the grill hit the trailer before the wheels had fully mounted the ramps and pushed the deck down
However nothing a rubber mallet couldn't fix
