Does anyone know where to locate the transmission serial number on a 95 Miata? IL registration requires both the engine and transmission serial numbers for registration. I know where to find the engine number, but haven't been able to find info outside of the VIN plate location on the transmission. Do they now have unique serial numbers? Is it also on the VIN plate? Sorry if this is an obvious question, I'm away from the car on a work trip until Thursday.
Thanks!

In the uk the authorities ask for this but don't require it. My understanding is that Ford boxes don't have one.
Perhaps IL deal with it in the same way? Have you asked as our form doesn't make it clear that it's not expected.

Should be on a small vin plate riveted to the case near the tail shaft. Driver's side on a NA

Thanks guys! I'll hunt for it on Thursday night. I found a lot of references for the engine SN, but wasn't able to find anything helpful online for the transmission one.
John, any idea if it is possible to read with the trans tunnel cover on from under the car?

On my 1991 NA based car, you can see the transmission VIN tag with everything installed from under the car - no problem! For some reason, the OH State Patrol officer who did the initial inspection on my car was fixated on that tag, even though it matches my donor car VIN and the VIN stamped on my engine block.
