Hello everyone! My name is Travis and I figured it was a little past due for me to start a build thread. I live in Knoxville, TN really close to the Tail of the Dragon . I am building Race Chassis #169 and have been doing lots of reading, tearing down, and refreshing. I am trying to keep my build as a semi budget conscious build.
The car started as a 1994 model with LSD that I bought from an older gentleman that just cruised in it for 105k. The car was in excellent shape and I almost hated to modify it. But alas it became my E Street autocross car with sway bar, Koni sport shocks, Direzza ZII tires, HP sport/HP + pads, and bump stops.
With more aggressive driving both at autocross and on the dragon I began to look at roll protection but it didn't seem likely that I could fit well (I know there are a few but it is hard to find details) since I am 6'3". THEN I stumbled across the ultimate roll bar, the Exocet! With a quick trip to a local event with XP5 and seeing how well I fit in it and a trip to Exofest I was sold. I placed my order on September 22 for my race chassis, wife's only terms was a full cage and not to go to crazy on "modifications" yet as we are expecting our first born on Feb 5. I also opted for the wiring tray, rear wing mounts, and powder coat. The frame will be powder coated a flat military green with black body panels that I will at some point have wrapped in matte black vinyl.
So far I have completely stripped the body, removed the electrical harness, and removed the tub. After that I began to work on re-freshening a few things. I rebuilt the shifter turret, prepped and painted subframes and A arms, installed poly diff mounts and mazdaspeed engine mounts, painted calipers, did a timing belt and water pump job, repacked front bearings, and replaced the diff and transmission fluids with Redline.
Painted with VHT chassis and roll bar paint vs prepped surface.
I have a few other little things to do and order such as slave cylinder, braided lines, a rivnut gun and rivnuts, wheels and tires( JNC 003 or holeshots), springs, etc but I think I am pretty much ready for the chassis. For the time being I think I will go with a set of Ground Control coilover sleeves and springs 375/250 for the Koni's.
