so ive done a bit o reading on the mev range and had initially been loocking more to the rocket when i discovered the exocet. obviously the reviews its gotten all say good thing what i am interested in is the build itself.
1 of my own worries is i have no experience building kit cars this would be my first.
is there any modifications neccessary to any of the components that are not already in the kit itself ?
not sure but if im building the kit in ireland does it have to be brought to the uk for the iva test ? is there a test place in ireland or at least northern ireland?
what have people spent building these cars ? including donor car , kit, delivery, bits and bobs, and any neccessary tools ?
all help appreciated as i really want to give this a go but on a shoe string budget without experience

I'm in Northern Ireland and we have just got an Exocet shipped over last week. Should be arriving at the house on Monday now.
It's our first time too but stripping the MX5 has been relatively straightforward. Will have to get some time to post pics in a build thread. I'm in Bangor (2 other Rockets here as well) - where abouts are you?
I can recommend a haulage firm friend of mine and Boucher Road Belfast do the IVAs as far as I know. Same process as mainland GB.
We're also trying to keep it as cheap as possible. PM me your email address and I'll send your our budget spreadsheet.

Its Newtownards that does the IVA's.

I've been doing some research on the VRT/SVA thing and the cheapest way to do it in Ireland is to buy a UK reg MX5 and build the car on that, then have it's SVA'd/IVA'd and then VRT it, depending on the doner, it should cost no more than €600 to €800 for VRT.
Better off buying a donor with decent mechanicals and a sh!t body than a nice bodied one with poor mechanicals, IMHO;)
Wouldn't mind getting my hands on the budget spreadsheet either Andy888;) You probably recognise me from Octane.ie, but shhhh...trying to keep this one a secret;)

Hi Regveg
If you have MOTd it with the MX5 VIN plates what does your V5 Registration document say, and how have you insured it? You may have problems if you try to sell it with a V5 that does not match the car. It sounds like the DVLA still think it's an MX5.

I have insured the car as a rebodied ( modified ) mx5 . I'm not sure that you can legally do this with the Exocet
