Yes those grommets may work and look better. I used a roofing rubber duct flange reducer since it was cheap and locally available and worked for easy on and off of the cover. I thought I would have the tank cover on and off more frequently so I wanted something I could do quickly and by myself. I haven't had the cover except right after I put the new filler on to verify no leaks. I'll probably leave since I really should and want to do a fuel cell and after visiting a few company booths at PRI today I am more likely than not to go that route.

Are you going to retain the rear bodywork with the fuel cell?
Also, how the hell did you get the fuel tri-valve insert out? That thing is stuck in there crazy good and I'm trying not to break it.
Just a heads up for anyone else wanting to do this, you can use a cutting disc to grind down the two spot welds holding the factory metal flange mount to the tube at the top. Mine popped off pretty easily after a couple minutes and it looks way better without it! Also uses a smaller bodywork hole without it.

I got the tri valve out by pushing it out after I cut the neck down from the back side. Pushing it out not pulling. It was tight but came out fine. When I put it in the new cut down neck I used an exhaust pipe expander to open the diameter of the neck up just enough for a snug fit.
I plan to use the tank cover after I get a fuel cell and hope I can use the same opening just with a proper bolt on flange to finish the look nicely.

Sorry I've been away from the forum here for awhile. No that wasn't me at the autocross. I just got back from a trackday weekend at Grattan in MI. Fun and no problems. I haven't done much to the car so no need to update the build thread.

Hmmmm ... then there is at least one more running around Ohio. Going in Thursday for a VIN plate at the State Patrol assuming they like my bumpers and windshield, so maybe one more in the state will be road legal soon!

Well I guess I am no longer an Exocet owner. The car just left with the new owner. It wasn't the fastest Exocet by any means but it sold the fastest. 28 mins after I posted the ad it was sold and deposit accepted for pick up today. I expected it would take a little while longer but it went to an enthusiast.
Thanks to all those here who helped make the car and build possible and easier. Best of luck and success in your Exocet experiences.
