Okay, I'm a noob & just got my TR1ke 2 weeks ago. Love it already! But Monday I hit 2 deer with the front right wheel. Which, broke the housing on the steering rack clean away from the bolt that holds it in place. I'd just assume buy new rather than welding many wierd angles. Also I'd like to have a bit tighter steering as well. So if anyone can point me in the right direction the help is appreciated!
Also, has anyone reinforced the front suspension mounts where the A arms connect? Mine seems to be very soft metal.

With regard to the steering rack you could contact SVE (formally RTR the manufactures) who can supply them but there also plenty of other places. I believe the steering rack is a standard sierra item so can be purchased from your local parts supplier. If you are wanting a quick rack then you could also try rally design and I'm pretty sure other places do them as they are a popular mod. As for the mounts..... they shouldn't be soft! Mine are not reinforced but they arnt soft! might be worth getting checked. Where in the country are you?.
Cheers

I'm in Robinson IL, USA.
Is the quick rack a separate item or a mod to the Sierra rack?
Also what year Sierra or does it matter?
And thanks for the info!

Ok I have to admit I am curious about the "soft metal" for the suspension mounts but, to be honest, I am more curious how you managed to hit TWO deer in the first place and only suffered a damaged track?
Did you get to strap the deer on your bonnet to take home?

The parts you need to quicken the steering are the rack and pinion which are the moving parts within the housing that the lug sheared off. PS, even with the quicker rack you would more than likely still hit the deer.
The non powered steering rack in the UK is listed as for cars from 1982-1993 but I've no idea what years the left hand drive racks come from. As for the soft metal that the wishbones mount to, are you saying the metals soft or that they're made out of narrow gauge steel so can be flexed easily?

PS, even with the quicker rack you would more than likely still hit the deer. Maybe there was a whole herd of deer but he only managed to hit two, deer are quite nimble but with a quicker rack............. I reckon rough27 should change his user name to DeerHunter

I used the Sierra rack as it is longer than most others thus allowing the driver to sit further forward. In the USA the Sierra was known as Tuarus or Merkur (German for Murcury), hope this helps you trace one.

I hit two( Mommy & baby) After Daddy jumped out and slowed me down. Right after I saw the big bucks I thought "I'm stopping at the next gas station to clean my goggles". and bam!! I clipped the other two with the right tire. I think I claimed all 4 rear ankles. As far as " soft metal". I say that because I bent the A arm brackets back to where they started fairly easily with just a big wrench. I can understand having a little flex. But since I bent it back. I either need to weld on more support. Or cut the entire front end off and rebuild all of it. And thanks for the "Tuarus" info. Over here "Sierra is a truck from GMC/Chevy & a Tuarus is a car from Ford. So that was almost a very confusing day. Also I don't want tighter steering to avoid deer :/ Just my preference. BTW, anyone put a fat tire kit on one yet? I'm considering a few different things in the rear. As fun as it is to cut loose in 3rd I'd love to see numbers on it with actual traction. I believe too, the Trike I've got was built by "late March" I'll post some pics if I can figure out how.

I think just about every tr1ke over here has the quick rack conversion, it works well and doesn't make it too twitchy. I could do with a wider rear tyre but it would need an offset chain drive setup or re position the motor further to the left, plus a wider swingarm and wheel.

Why does the rack length affect the drivers seat position? it stops the wishbones breaking your toes off In the picture above a poor pedal arrangement is the result of a narrow front end. The clutch pedal is almost on the centre line.
