No experience of them I'm afraid, but I did look at them on the internet about a year ago - have to say it looks quite an impressive bit of kit, and lots of advantages over a "standard" trailer. Just been looking at the videos (new since I looked last I think) and I'm tempted too. All I'd need is a car with a towbar Martin

As long as your car weighs less than 590kg

Yes....we'd need a car with a tow bar as well. But I suppose that if the trailer plus trailered car weigh only ~ 740kgs the tow car need only weigh one tonne, as opposed to needing a thundering big 4x4.

I've been on the hunt for a trailer for a while, I've hired/borrowed a few but they have all been tandem types and they are way too big and heavy for a Rocket.
Apart from the sheer weight of them when towing they are also a dog to move around off the car even when empty.
However the worst bit is the width, I was always nervous that I would go through a gap wide enough for the car but not the trailer, or clip an object or cyclist on my left side.
That design looks pretty good as it seems perfect in both size and load capacity and is nice and light.
However the tow vehicle needs to have the unbraked towing capability to cope, my Mitsubishi Airtrek is only rated to 500kg unbraked, it would weigh over a tonne as well, 1330 kg in fact. Oddly the braked capacity of 1500kg is higher than some of the other Mitsubishi cars with higher unbraked capacity.
The wheels seem small but there are four and it does have suspension, I have been advised to avoid solid axle trailers for a whole load of reasons.
As I could not find a large enough, light enough, single axle, braked trailer with suspension I was looking to build my own. The plan was to make the mudguards strong enough to drive over and have the trailer wheels as far inboard as possible thus keeping the size to the minimum. I never thought of using small wheels underneath a flat deck like that.
The price seems quite competitive as well, on par with other new trailers, sure others would seem to have greater capacity and size etc for the money but to me this one looks like it does just enough.
If that were available in NZ and my car tow capacity was 750kg I would be well interested.

Ah...yes, the unbraked capacity of the towing vehicle needs to be taken into account. We used to have an MNR Vortx for which we bought a new twin axle substantial trailer. And, as you remark, it was extremely hard to manoeuvre, even without anything on it. After the MNR turned out to be a bit if a disaster we worked on a 1.8 NB MX5 for track use, and this plus the trailer weighed around one and a half tonnes. Hence, even though the trailer was braked, we needed a fairly hefty towing car. The idea of a 160kg trailer with a 590kg kit car being towed by a 1000kg car looks rather attractuve by comparison.

Just had a look at this and checked out the towing weights of my Grand Vitara. Un-braked 750kg, Braked 1750Kg.
The Un-Braked Limit would be very close as the trailer is about 160Kg allowing the car to be around 590Kg max.
As the car is a petrol, cost of fitting a towbar and then the cost of the trailer itself I think I'll give it a miss just now.

Would a Rocket fit on that? I'd expect it to ground...

Would a Rocket fit on that? I'd expect it to ground... That was just to illustrate how you can utilise the gap between the wheels on the Rocket to accommodate the trailer wheels thus enabling the trailer to be as narrow as possible without using small wheels under a flat deck.

Stuart did a conversion on a SWB 'tranny' that looks pretty neat compared to the 4x4 trailer shown earlier in this thread. Nothing to stop you borrowing the tactic and applying it to a vehicle or trailer.

Wots a SWB?
That's looking more like it. Pretty much figured I would have to build my own to get the correct balance for the rear weight of the Rocket.

....alternative to a LWB. Short Wheel Base and Long Wheel Base. I just hope you don't ask what a "tranny" is.........that may be open to interpretation Martin
