Fenders weren't an issue. Just don't do anything to get attention in Denver. Like drive an Exocet you mean?! lol indeed. My dad has driven his 26 model t hot rod without fenders (open lakeside header and super charged flat head) through Denver many times. Basically, don't be an idiot and give them a reason to pull you over and you're fine. Fenderless Jeeps have the same problem and very few have had an issue.

OK so I've got a plan and started ordering supplies. I'm going to make my own DOT approved safety glass removable windshield for the car so I can get this thing on the road. The overall idea is inspired from DOT glass windshields for UTV's. Something like this. Talked to a glass company here in Denver and got their recommendation. Basically need a windshield frame that is 1/8" thick with at least 3" radius corners. They can then cut the glass and install using a rubber gasket similar to how old VW beetle windshields are mounted. Today I ordered 6 heavy duty clamps through summit here, and this week I'll go pick up some 1/8" 5052 aluminum from a local aluminum scrap yard (pay per pound and they cut it for you!). Next weekend I'll cut out the windshield hole, mounting holes, wiper hole, make a few minor bends top and bottom in the sheet metal to strengthen it, and paint it. Then I'll Take the frame to the glass shop and have them install the glass in the frame and get it mounted up. That's the plan at least. Then I can get this thing inspected and get the process started. So, for those wanting to build their own or just curious. Stay tuned.

Are you going for the hand operated wiper clamped on and over the top of frame.. Summit should have that too..

What glass shop did you talk to? Need to get my windshield done. Premium Auto Glass. They have a few locations around town. Working with their sales guy now to figure out which location I need to go to.

Was hoping to knock out the frame last weekend but it looks like the flu had other plans. But I have 6 clamps and a piece of 1/8 aluminum ready to go just need to chop it up. Hopefully I'll find time over the week or Saturday. Track day Sunday!! So need to get ready for that as well.

My Dad came over tonight and helped me get started with the windshield frame tonight. Cut it out of 1/8" aluminum. Still need to clean up the edges and a few corners. Then I'll drill the holes for the mounts, mount the wiper and get some paint (black of course). I think it'll be just fine to keep the state patrol happy. Looks pretty Mad Max-ish but what ever it takes to get this thing legal... These are the mounts. Going to use 3 on each side. Probably replace the thumb screws with real bolts for inspection just in case.

I'm curious. Is it that wide on the sides to fit the clamps for mounting it or some other reason like strength or symmetry?

I'm curious. Is it that wide on the sides to fit the clamps for mounting it or some other reason like strength or symmetry? Little bit of both. From the edge of the frame to the end of the mount is 2.75 inches. I need room for the windshield gasket which is about .5 inches. The windshield starts at 4.5 inches from the side of the windshield frame which gives me more support so the frame has more strength to support the windshield. Even at highway speeds with a head wind this could see air speeds of 100+ mph so want to make sure the frame is as sturdy as possible. When I sit in the drivers seat the pillar is really no wider then the pillars on my truck. They just look bigger since they sit on top of the roll cage bars.

So, after many delays from being sick, terrible weather, and work trips, I finally painted and mounted the windshield frame. I'll get the glass cut and installed this week. Also got some new mirrors since my chinese made motorcycle mirrors broke the mounting stud. These are really nice and well built. They're $40 each but worth the investment IMHO. Also they are a good size since the motor cycle mirrors were a bit useless since they are so small. Nice mirrors. Are they flat or a little convex? Disregard. I see they are listed as panoramic. I assume this is both vertically and horizontally?

Got the windshield backl from the Glass Shop and got it mounted up. Turned out pretty good. It has the DOT engraving on it and should satisfy my inspection (now on 5/28) so I can get this thing legal. Until then need to put on the wiper, new turn signals and mount the headlights back on. All in all cost me around $300 for the aluminum, glass work, wiper and clamps. That was $300 I didn't really want to spend but if it means I get plates then it's worth it. Also, once I do have plates I can easily take it off and keep it in the garage just in case I need it. For anyone out there with a Race Chassis that needs a windshield for inspection, if you want to go this route here's the specs: - 1/8 inch aluminum sheet 40x48 trimmed the corners and bend the top to follow the cage. - Windshield hole is 38x22 (but would recommend going 40x22 I was a little too cautious with giving room for the gasket) - 6 EMP clamps www.summitracing.com/parts/emm-9881- Windshield wiper (covers most of the windshield. I may just mount it in the center.) www.amazon.com/Sea-412601-1-Manual-Windshield-Wiper/dp/B002IV4KFA?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

Hitched up the trailer for my second attempt at inspection today. And GOOD NEWS!!! passed my inspection by adding the glass windshield and wiper to the car. Also went and submitted my paper work so hopefully in a few weeks I can finally get plates! In other news I'll be running my very first autocross this weekend and now I can get the car ready. Picked up my numbers today and get them put on and going to take off the windshield, wing, and headlights and go see how many cones I can destroy
